Higginson Farms Mercantile — Local services in Carmi

This is a locally owned store & they have another store south of here. We love to go here & browse. This Mercantile isn't a restaurant but, you'll find many things to eat! They have fresh farm eggs, milk, homemade cakes & pies. Hand-dipped ice cream & they are large scoops! The offering of waffle cones, cake cones, dips in cups, sundaes, milkshakes & I'm sure that I have forgotten others is amazing! The owners have beef that is raised on their farm. These range from ground beef to several varieties of steak, roast & more options. The Mercantile has a weekly meat selection of approximately five different meats in a package for one price & it's a popular choice. There is a large selection of local vendors, Illinois, Carmi, and Carmi Bulldogs items, plus other towns' local school items. Other vendors are a little further away but all vendors have unique items not found anywhere else. You can find seasonal home decor, year-round decor, kitchen accessories like mixes, barbecue sauce, salsa, relishes, soda pop, and candy from homemade fudge to vintage candy from the good ole' days. I love the gardening totes and watercolor paintings. There is such an eclectic assortment of items. I have no doubt anyone can go there & find something for themselves or someone else or maybe both. This is just a very limited choice of all they have to choose from. You won't be sorry if you stop in & look around, but you will be sorry...

I go to the Mercantile first if I'm looking for a special gift. It was a great place to pick up stocking stuffers! They offer locally raised meats, an unmatched variety of brats, and delicious canned goods from the Amish and local vendors.

On Saturdays, get there early for fresh, delicious Amish donuts, cinnamon rolls, and pie!
