I just want to share about how much i appreciate the staff that works in the ER at CCMH. I had taken my grandson who has type 1 diabeties and has had for going on now for seven years. It is a battle for him to keep it regulated. He is continually on a insulin pump. He was feeling sick on a Sat. and his sugar reading was over 300 at the time and we had checked for his keytones and they were positive. So he said he wanted to go to the ER. When a 16 years old says he wants to go then he is sick. Well when we got there Dr. Shields was on call. He examined him and did blood work. His sugar by then was over 700 and was in DKA. So he gives the orders to give him fluids and an insulin drip as soon as the test were back. We do make several trips to the ER for this between him and his twin brother. They both have type 1 diebeties. I just want to thank Dr. Shields for his urgency to give him fluids and insulin drip. We have been to other small hospitals and they would not administer any fluids or insulin drip because they are a minor. There is a risk in bringing their sugar done to fast. But most hospitals should need to learn this. We had an incident with the other twin brother just a week before this and in another county. That hospital would not give him any fluids at all and would not give him any insulin drip. We almost come very close to losing him that time. His sugar was over 1000 and was delerious and didn't know what was going on. They were afraid he had swelling on his brain. He was flown by helicopter from Marion Ind. to Lousiville Ky to Norton's childern and spent 4 days in ICU. I say all this to shout out to Dr. Shields and the ER staff for taking excellent care of my grandson. I think small hospitals should take some kind of training for type 1 diebetic minor children. It can make a difference. Thank you CCMH....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSimilar experiences as others waiting a long time with no one in the hospital. I came to get a surgery wound rewrapped because it was bleeding everywhere and the doctor kept telling me he did not know what to do. Got overwhelmed. Asked me how I thought he should wrap it. Did not know how to use Tegaderm. The wound was not wrapped properly as it is a fatty tissue wound with a skin graft over it from a dog bite which requires keeping moist. I have a dry gauze over top of it. Doctor literally said he was removing himself from the situation and left the room. The hospital is dirty. There was a shoeprint on the sheet that covered the bed before I even sat down. When they came to verify my information they asked me if my emergency contact was still the same person and gave me a name I've never even heard of. One of the nurses was talking about punching a patient's face in if he had to continue listening to him run his mouth. I told them I was uncomfortable. I wanted to leave as soon as possible. As I was leaving, the patient was being arrested. This was May 16, 2017. Not even sure if that patient truly deserved being arrested.
A visit I had back in August just due to convenience and location, I was told my situation was not important because the man in the room next to me just passed away. I was told to leave. I wish I knew how to report them to the BBB. I wish Google would allow anonymous reviews because I do not want to be contacted but I think this is something people...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDisrespectful. Unhelpful. Incapable of providing standard, basic hospital practices. I called to check on the status of a family member this morning, and the operator said, "We cannot give that information over the phone." Since when? They've given it out before in the past few months. Also, every hospital I have called elsewhere in the past few months can always give out that basic information. What kind of an idiot would provide an answer like that? (Is that what they would like to hear if they were to call a hospital?) What kind of a buffoon would train someone to say something like that? And what kind of administrative oversight would condone such a terrible, cruel policy as this? A month ago, the ER doctor on duty angrily went on a tirade when asked about the status of a patient. While I have met some friendly and helpful staff, these reprehensible experiences overshadow any kind of positive reputation and service one can...
