This is a nice specialty grocer that CR is lucky to have. Lots of new foods to try and learn about if one is not familiar with certain Mediterranean foods. One can always google items but it might be kinda cool to have sections of the store shelves translate items to English - only for the ease of browsing quickly to try new things. The layout of the store was good with baklava and fresh eats off to the same side & meats, cheeses and olives in the back.
I specifically wanted to try the Dubai chocolate 🍫 and I am craving to eat more! It’s something I am going to seek out again soon when I get a chance. It was stored in the order fresh food display case. I got there about 1pm on a Saturday and three were left and I took one bar. While I was there someone grabbed the last two so they go quickly! The ratio of filling to chocolate is perfect.
I also tried some baklava and Basbousa and I’ve decided it’s not my go to but prefer it warmed up in the air fryer when I’m eating it. The fresh bakery items when you first walk in were tempting so I tried the meat and cheese filled triangle bread (not sure exact name) and they were tasty. The olive assortment was amazing in the back. I ended up with the mixed spicy olives 🫒 and we both enjoyed snacking on them over the weekend.
I ordered mix grilled platter to go (Shish kebab, Shish Tawook, with special rice, babaganouj, pickles, onions, garlic, or tahini sauce) I really liked the chicken and found the beef pretty bland. I would try the chicken wrap next time. And the fresh pita to take home will be on my...

Reasons you have to go 1-staff is so kind and truly appreciate of your business and they give recommendations about their products and food(like warming something up vs eating it cold) 2-the baklava. Speaks for itself. If you’re ever there and they have knafe, you should try that too-but only eat it warm if you’ve never had it before! 3-the hummus. At $4.99 why would you ever buy store bought again?? And that includes one HOMEMADE pita bread 3.5- the homemade pita bread. Yeah it’s easy to make, but most probably don’t want to wait for dough to rise, so go support local. And..it’s only $0.50 each! 4-the baba ghanouj- if you’ve never had it or even if you’ve tried it elsewhere.. GO NOW! 5-the candy aisle. US chocolate is just different than other countries. If you’re not a big fan of the chocolate here or just want to try something different, go try any of the Milka chocolates 6-all of the grocery items you can’t find anywhere else...
Read moreI saw a really nice video on Facebook from Dec 2023 featuring Chloe Trca reviewing Vytyl in Cedar Rapids. My family finally had an opportunity to visit in March 2024. It's an impressive market with plenty of food selections. We have some Mediterranean grocery stores in our home city, but none are as large as Vytyl. The store seems well-staffed and well-stocked. In addition to being a nice general grocery store, Vytyl also has unique foods that are Halal. This is nice for those who seek to follow specific religious dietary guidelines. Cedar Rapids is a city that supports religious diversity, so it's common to see stores and restaurants that reflect the culturally and religiously diverse community. This is part of what makes Cedar Rapids an appealing travel destination for people in the...
