I stopped in here for lunch on a Sunday with a group of six. I saw their 4-star rating and thought for sure I'd found a little gem. I was so, so wrong. I won't begrudge them the one star because our server was friendly and lunch was very prompt. However, if they'd spent a little more time on the food it might have been better for everyone. No one, and I mean no one, enjoyed their food. We ordered three vegetarian dishes (lo mein & 2 mixed vegetable dishes) and three flesh-eater dishes (lemon chicken, beef & broccoli, and some happy family type thing).
The lunch specials came with a cup of soup that can best be described as a salty, corn starchy mess. I can't attest personally as there was no vegetarian option, but none of the meat eaters ate more than one bite. Visually, the soup looked like icky goop. I was surprised they even tried it.
Our appetizer (fried shrimp) appeared almost immediately after the soup. Again, not something I tried, but with 4 people open to eating seafood, we took some home for the dog. The description I got was 'rubbery'.
The dishes were all served with fried rice - no options were ever offered. None of us realized we'd ordered lunch specials until the soup came out. The lunch specials also came with crab rangoons. They were described as "probably okay for me to eat" because there didn't appear to be any crab in them. All the dishes were bland. There's was just nothing exciting about them. Nothing tasty, nothing super fresh, nothing but plate after plate of sad vegetables covered in sticky sauces. My nephew ordered the lemon chicken and it was just weird. Battered & fried balls of chicken (expected) with some pineapple chunks and cherries thrown in. Pretty sure that all came out of a can. And when an eight year old describes something as very sweet you know you've got a bad lemon dish on your hands.
Overall, the price was right, but we got what we...
Read moreNever going back! I have came here for 20 years me and my boyfriend always get the sesame chicken, always tipped good. We are regulars along with the rest of my family. Last few times have not had good quality food. We decided to give it another chance today after not going a while. Customer service was ok until I made my first ever complaint; none of our food was fresh, not even the egg roll and ESPECIALLY not the chicken. We were not expecting the owner to argue with us about the food saying he had fried the chicken 24 hours before we ate it, and said that everyone else in the restaurant was eating the chicken, so we should have too! We barely touched our food and were a little uncomfortable just staring at us and getting upset when we had our plates pushed to the edge of the table and he realized we weren’t going to eat it . We were very polite as we have eaten here so many times and was not expecting him to be so rude and telling us not to come back. We kept our composure but we had a lot of reasons to be mad. This is the first complaint we had ever made out loud, and we will...
Read moreBeen eating here for years. They have some of the best chinese food in the Cedar Rapids area and 2nd best rangoons behind Pei's. They also have great pot stickers but unfortunately they don't serve them with the traditional soy-vinegar dipping sauce.
Portions are respectable. I eat heavy and I usually get 2 meals out of 1 dinner. They're also fantastic about removing and adding vegetables at no charge. Example: I hate onions but my favorite dish there is their mongolian beef. So I always order it with no onion and add carrots, broccoli and mushrooms. Other plates I enjoy from this establishment are their sesame chicken, orange chicken, and general tso's chicken. I'm a fan of their black tea as well.
The staff hasn't changed much in all the years I've gone there and they're pretty tight knit.
Give it a shot. If you're not sure what to order, tell them what you like. They'll suggest something that should appeal to your taste.
One last thing to note...they DO deliver. Not very many people realize that. Great for when you're having a lazy day and want some...
