I'm writing to express my disappointment with recent changes at the Cedar Rapids NW Planet Fitness location. I've been a Black Card member for 3.5 years and have generally been satisfied with my experiences, especially during my winter stay in Arizona, where I utilized my membership regularly. However, several recent issues upon my return home have led me to reconsider my membership.
Firstly, I understand that hours change, and I was willing to adjust my schedule when the location's hours were modified. However, my experience with the hydromassage services has been consistently problematic. In late December, when I came back for a visit, after a satisfactory workout, I was informed that both hydromassage machines were out of service. While I understand equipment malfunctions occur, it was frustrating. More recently, after returning home from Arizona for the spring and summer months, I planned my workout to include the hydromassage, a key benefit of my Black Card that I enjoyed using while away. I arrived today with ample time, aiming to complete my workout and hydromassage session before closing. However, I was told the hydromassage area closes 30 minutes prior to the gym's posted closing time. I was unaware of this policy change and had not received any notification, either via signage or email.
This significantly impacts my ability to utilize a primary benefit of my membership, especially as I specifically chose the Black Card for its traveling and hydromassage benefits, which I utilized successfully in Arizona. With the current hours and this new hydromassage closure policy, I can only access this service on two out of my five weekly workout days.
I appreciate the flexibility of the Planet Fitness Black Card membership, but the combination of unannounced policy changes and equipment downtime is making it difficult to justify the cost, particularly after experiencing the benefits of the Black Card at other locations. While I understand that communicating all changes can be challenging, the lack of notice has significantly impacted my ability to effectively use the services I'm paying for. I'm now seriously considering whether this NW Cedar Rapids location continues to meet my fitness needs, especially as the other location is too far to incorporate into my schedule. Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been giving this PF too many chances as it is more convenient than the other location. I see a lot of the same complaints in these reviews yet nothing has changed. When you walk in, first thing you see is the group of "employees" standing behind the counter on their phones with their heads down, scrolling like their life depends on it. When you approach them for help, it almost seems like they are irritated or they act like it's a chore to do their job in any capacity. I like the short guy with the deep voice, but ALL of the others do not represent the company well in ANY capacity. Yesterday was the second time I have been put in a tanning bed in which I asked for 9 or 10 minutes, yet it continuously ran through to 12 mins and 22 seconds. Yesterday was even a different bed than the other one yet both times I've brought it to their attention I'm told it's having "mechanical issues" or "it's just a hit and miss", not to mention 14 bulbs were out in the one bed and ALL the bulbs had some kind of dusty dirty debris in them that could be flammable. So why are you continuously putting people in tanning beds with "hit and miss mechanical issues" that can literally effect someone's safety? 2 mins is the difference between a tan and a burn that needs medical attention. Last week I was sent to a dirty bed that literally had butt cheek prints on it and by the time they finished cleaning it, i had lost 3 mins of my tanning time. Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been coming to Planet Fitness on the west side of Cedar Rapids for years, but I must say, things have been going down hill lately. I come to tan at least 4 days out of the week and utilize the Hydromassage bed and deep tissue chair on a regular. I come in and staff are all standing around the front desk talking or on their phones, sitting on the countertops. They'll check me in at their leisure and when I go back to the tanning bed, 95% of the time it's not been cleaned! I used to the have a number of clean dry clothes for cleaning, but I'm lucky to have the paper towels filled now! I'm at a loss of words, as with so many staff just standing around the whole facility should be spic and span! Now today I go in and the best bed they have is out of commission due to bulbs being out... this is not a new problem here. The massage beds and chairs are rarely all working! Today I used the hydro massage bed and when I got up my back was drenched. Upon inspection, I noticed that there was a leak in the actual bed! I'm seriously considering going to their other location at Lindale Mall, but they only have Stand Up tanning, and I prefer to lay down and relax. Perhaps it's time to look for...
