This place is a scam. My Dell desktop would not boot up and all indications were that the power supply had failed. I called Queen City and was told they would diagnose it for free unless it was very involved. Urged me to come that evening (it was 6pm on a Friday) and he would wait for me. Even though this place was 18 miles away, the reviews were good, and he sounded eager and helpful, so I drove there.
First thing he does when we take off the side cover (it just pops out) is to tell me, “oh, you have a graphics card. That makes it much harder to diagnose the power supply”. I am not that ignorant about computers, and know enough that the graphics card had no relevance to telling if the PSU had failed. I decided to leave, and he comes running out to tell me that he spoke to his manager (as far as I could tell, he was the only one in there, and my walk to the car was 30 seconds), and he would diagnose it for free but I should bring it back the next day. I left.
Come home and read the manual, and it points out that there is a switch next to the LED light on the back of the PSU called the “BIST” switch (built in self test) to help determine a PSU failure. In 30 seconds, I knew the PSU had failed. Took it to Best Buy geek squad the next day, and he confirmed in 5 minutes that the power supply needed replacing and I made an appointment to have it replaced ($40 plus cost of PSU) today. No one talked about the graphics card.
Bottom line, this guy was scamming me to make a quick buck on a diagnosis fee because he assumed I was ignorant. Stay far away from this place. Had I left the computer with them, I wouldn’t be surprised if they found a lot more things to “fix”.
I am now looking forward to seeing how his response twists this to say I made this up and I am not telling the truth.
Update 6/9: just picked up the desktop from Best Buy Geek Squad. Replaced PSU with a Thermaltake 700w with 5 year warranty - $59.99 for the unit, and $39.99 for labor and it works perfectly. Glad I knew enough not to fall for the “you have a graphics card so it’s very involved to diagnose the power supply”. Yeah, push a test button and know the PSU has failed. If you are naive when it comes to computers, take it somewhere else.
Update: 6/11
The response from Queen City is BS. Before I went there, I asked them to do one thing: confirm that the PSU is dead. I did not ask for any additional diagnostics. My intent (clearly communicated to Queen City) was to replace the PSU if it was indeed dead, and then decide if I wanted to pour additional money into a 7 year old desktop if that did not fix it. Interesting how they were fixated on the graphics card within a minute of opening the computer. By the way, the BIST (built in self test) button absolutely confirms the power supply has failed. It will not identify other issues, but all I asked for was confirmation that the PSU had failed.
Readers can draw their own conclusion, but they are either incompetent, or trying to scam me because they sssumed this senior citizen was an ignoramus. My money is...
Read moreI’ve purchased many computers from here (Mac and PC) to utilize in command centers providing relief to WNC. Most quit working after a month of use. The MacBook purchased here stopped working after updating the Mac Operating System. I’m not sure if they’re installing some copied version of Mac or what they’re doing but I was told upgrading to the latest Mac OS for the device was my fault that it stopped working. Does not seem to be authentic Mac OS OR secure in my opinion. Spend the extra money elsewhere and avoid routinely spending money on them installing new Hard Drives or wiping the device to reinstall software and losing anything not backed up. Hate to leave bad reviews but 7/9 computers requiring work after light use and bringing the software up to date seems to be a trend with product quality . The only resolution the owner would entertain was to spend half of what I paid for the computer to reinstall software. I’m sure not everything they sell is junk but I can’t afford to risk it purchasing here any longer.
*This is not a scam or someone previously trying to sell reviews to the owner as seen in other negative reviews. Just someone opening the blinds into my personal experience here dealing with this business and...

$100 paid them to diagnose my MacBook Pro after I spilled water. 3 days later I had to call them to get an update , they told me it could not be fixed and just to get a new one, they tried to sell my another computer and give them my broken one. I thought that was a bit strange so I picked up the laptop and took it another place where they are specialized to work with Macs . The other repair shop didn’t charge me a diagnostic. Zero fees to diagnose it and on top of that they called me the same day saying the laptop had never been opened !!!! All original adhesive was intact!!! The other company fixed it in 1 day and showed me how you can tell when a computer like this gets open
Stay away from this place! $100 diagnosis...
