This is the closest park to my house and I have been going here for almost 20 years! It used to just be a walking track, and then narrow bridge restaurant was still standing. The big field where the barn is , there was a tangled forest, and no one went back there because of all the brambles. I'm so happy that they put in a dog park and a playground. I've watched it grown up over the years and I'm so happy that it's used so much. When it first started, only a few people went. Once they added the playground and the dog park and open access to the pond, it became very popular. But it would always hold a special place in my heart. I learned to skateboard there in high school. Sometimes in the old days it would just be me and one other person in the park. He was a Nice older man. That would take his cockatoo bird for walks. The bird would ride on his shoulder. Years later I finally got up the courage to talk to him and tell him how cool I thought he was haha. This park is the perfect place to have a children's birthday party. My child had three of his parties here. The people who work in the mansion for the city of Chattanooga are top notch. Literal besties. We love you, Chris and Kris! Heritage Park is my favorite Park in Chattanooga, Coolidge Park who? We may not have the carousel and the fountains, but we do have wildflower fields perfect for photography in the spring and tadpoles to observe for the littles and big open field to fly your drone or play soccer. It's my favorite place to hang up my hammock. I could go on and on about how wonderful I think this place is. The squirrels are very friendly and will let you feed them. My only complaint is I feel there should be more trash cans along the back part, I understand that's not typically where you would put a trash can, but along the trails that run the back of Ryall branch would be nice. Just to keep the litter off the trails. One interesting thing about Ryall Springs, which is the area behind the neighborhood Walmart on East Brainerd Road stretching back to the Banks road area, that place used to be a mineral springs healing resort that was known worldwide and people would come from all over to bathe in the healing waters of the springs. This is the creek that is in the very back of the park. There are new trails, so if you go toward the pond and cross a little stream, be careful. Careful the rocks might be slippery, but it's only a foot across, and then walk down the trail till you see the little bridge but then don't cross it, veer to your left and up there will become a fork in the trail, it is a giant loop so bring a bottle of water. You can choose either left or right but I like to go right first, because then you can find little beaches. So to say of rocks and river glass if you get down in the creek. Please remember to look out for snakes as I nearly stepped on copperhead. He was in his element sunning on a rock and I just barreled right through to his chill spot. Sorry buddy! Anyways, if you keep going you'll see the back of the U-Haul place that's on East Brainerd Road, kind of gives you an idea of how far you can go back in there. Google maps will work and their trail s visible on the maps but there are not trail markers. All of the trails connect so I don't think it would be hard to get lost all though Frustrating if you couldn't find your way back. One trail is a bike trail but I walk on it, it's meant for jumping or trail biking. It is a great place to bring children. There are barely any mosquitoes, and it's very fun to swim in the creek in the back. I recommend wearing water shoes because there are crawdads everywhere. The bathrooms are always clean and they have...
Read moreMy review is for the dog park. Great location. Plenty of room. Nice watering system for the dogs except when they cut the water off which is usually way too early in the season like in early to mid October when the weather is still in the sixties and seventies. It takes quite a bit of cold weather for an extended period of time for pipes to freeze but I guess they don't want to take any chances. 🙄 The bad: too many people do not clean up after their dog despite the fact that there are free disposal bins and free poop bags in several locations there. I've literally watched someone pretend not to see his dog pooping in the middle of the yard to avoid having to clean up the mess. Many times the owners are too busy staring at their phone screens to pay attention to their dog. Too often owners with aggressive dogs do nothing but stand there and laugh while their dog terrorizes the smaller dogs. They see nothing wrong with their dogs aggressive behavior. They DO however have a problem when their dog is the one being bullied or terrorized. I'm talking about the alpha dogs with a nasty disposition who are there to establish dominance and attack other dogs, not the ones who may play a little rough from time to time. My own dog can get a little too rowdy sometimes and when he does I remove him so that he does not become a nuisance or injure another dog. It's probably not a good idea to bring your child or toddler here to roam around inside the fenced area. I've seen more than a few young children getting mowed over by a pack of running dogs. When this happens the parent is usually upset and looking for someone to blame, anyone but themselves for thinking it was a good idea to bring a child into a dog park where full grown dogs are running full speed. This is probably not the best place to train your Dog, especially if it annoys you when other dogs come up to your dog to check him or her out . I have watched people bring their dogs to the dog park and then act like they don't want any other dogs around them. Sometimes people with extremely large dogs will take them to the smaller dog side if there's no one there. I have watched people with small dogs pull into the parking lot and then leave because they don't want to put their Lhasa apso in a fence with a dog that is four times its size and outweighs it by 100 lbs. Most times it's pretty laid back and peaceful there. Grass is usually mowed and park is...
Read moreThe dog park was filled with things for the dogs to do...big and small dogs. I think it is awesome there is a playground there. o been wondering why all the places I've lived, why there wasn't a playground at the dog park as well. However, the playground was a little lacking, in my opinion. There needs to be more playgrounds like the Chicamauga Dam Day Park. Also, the could have made the walking path go ALLLL the way around the park. Instead, there's on one that leads directly into the main street. No sidewalk or anything. They need to make that wrap around the whole park. There is a barn that I'd love to photograph when no people are by it. I'm not sure the actual purpose of the barn being there. There were lots of dog bag posts, trash cans, and recycling bins for clean up, which was nice. I'm new to the area and didn't know what the big building was. I'm sure it is something that is used for currently, unlike that barn. The barn just seems to be decoration. I will definitely go back with my family and dog. Oh! There is plenty of open grassy area to relax, kick/throw a ball or frisbee around in. I was surprised the park didn't have any basketball courts...or at least 1 half court and maybe even some volleyball courts. Anyway, still a nice park for the whole family to enjoy...
