Geiger True Value in Chillicothe is a GREAT family-owned small business that saved me yet again!

Many call Geiger True Value gaugers or overpriced, and will drive out of their way to go to a larger store in Peoria. Don't get me wrong, if I am already going to Peoria, I frequent other stores. But when I am in a pinch, Geiger is a great store that cares about its customers and the community. I go there as much as possible and Tom is a great person to bounce ideas off of and is always willing to spend time with a customer to come up with a solution.

My mother-in-law was without power yesterday morning and her basement was taking on water. I called Geiger before their 8:00 opening time and reached Ann, one of the owners. Ann confirmed a generator was available to rent and I picked it up quickly to get the sump pump doing its job, even filling out the paperwork later.

Tom bailed my dad out several times over the years, even opening the store so we could get a new pump for his basement, in a pinch.

They are a great small business and should be supported as much as possible. Are they higher than the big stores? Of course. My dad was a bit higher priced than larger stores in Peoria. They have overhead with less net sales to...

This True Value hardware store in the small town of Chillicothe, IL. has been family owned and operated since the 1930's. This is a full-service hardware store, it just doesn't happen to qualify as an indoor lumberyard.

Geiger is also a Stihl dealer, selling and servicing Stihl power equipment and other small power equipment. Geiger has an equipment rental department where they rent scaffolding, electric and gas-powered light construction eq. (Drain snakes, jack hammers, hammer drills, etc.) This equipment also requires Geiger to be knowledgeable in the inspection, repair, and service of a wide range of products.

Geiger also has a full-service pet department with semi-exotic pets such as chinchillas, ferrets, geckos and the like. It is one of the few locations in the county where these animals are available.

Overall Summary: My kids like coming here more than the Zoo and the Home Improvement Stores combined....

I mean yeah it smells good inside but when you enter the pet section, you are greeted by dirty tanks and cages, fish tanks that are filled with mold and dead fish.

Overstocked tanks to the point where even the filter cant even clean the tank out anymore.

Their mice cages are overstocks. Their bettas are kept in tiny bowls.

I went there earlier today and their fish tank was dirty and there was mold growing inside. Me and my little sister looked into a fish tank and there was at least 2 dead fish rotting at the bottom while other fish picked at them.
