It's a standard grocery store. It's clean, they keep a good stock (I've never had issues finding something I needed), very accessible by transit, etc. However, the prices are awful enough to make me totally avoid going here even though it's only half a mile walk from me. For those curious, they do offer senior discounts, a rewards card program, and even gas rewards at participating stations so depending on your interests and the day it might be more valuable to go here.
I really only have one experience with the service after realizing their prices are inordinately high and not going anymore. A younger girl bagging my groceries looked absolutely done and definitely was not keen on talking when I made some small-talk, but we all have bad days and need to clock into work anyways. Mind you, I don't really care about that and I'm against the idea that people (especially people making minimum wage) need to be "on" all the time, but that's just my experience with the service for review purposes and for those who might care.
I'd just recommend Aldi even though it's a little out of the way, but most items are 30-50% cheaper than the national average, they have a simpler and smaller store layout, their brand-name stuff is high-quality (award-winning too), and it's just simpler than having to weigh out the rewards programs stuff which is a little outdated in my opinion.
Overall, I feel like my critique and preference lies more with Weis as a brand than this individual store, because the store is standard as a Weis in of itself. It does the thing it's designed to. So, if you just really want to shop at a Weis, then this is a good place to go. If it's a nearby convenience thing, I'd look into their rewards diligently so you're not overspending. If you aren't "committed" and want a simple place to shop with honest pricing and you have location flexibility, go to ALDI, Wegman's (especially if you want variety or specialty ingredients), or...
Read moreEdit/Update: 2025- Even higher prices, underhanded marketing tactics, fake "sales", and coupons that don't work, but now it feels like shopping in a prison with security gates! (Also, there's a good 25% chance that there will be mold on your food. I've had it happen with both baked goods and cheeses.)
Weis is the biggest bait-and-switch grocery store around. Prices are -consistently- higher than other food stores; "sales" that are only a few cents lower (if you buy 3-10; and even then they might still be higher than elsewhere!), lesser variety, shopper card requirements, and now, the biggest kicker, they require their APP installed on your phone, linked to the shopper account so that you can actually get the advertised prices!!!
I'm not actually sure how this isn't discrimination, since older people not comfortable with technology and people without smart phones are now essentially being overcharged.
Stay away from underhanded marketing tactics and...
Read moreThis Weis is not my favorite Weis, though it is better than the one on Robinson St. (Upper Front St. Weis is my favorite local grocery. It has the best prices, a better selection of discount meat and breads, and the best $20 butcher packs.) This Weis offers a great selection of goods though, better on that count than the other local Weises. It is also the largest store by-area and features an attached CVS.
I was not impressed by the variety in their $20 butcher bundle (which is usually enough meat for me for 2 weeks) which contained chicken wings, chicken drumsticks, chicken thighs, and Italian sausage. Upper Front's usually contain ground beef, chicken thighs, sausage, and pork chops. I took two stars off for that and the lack of meat specials, before giving one back because this store is...
