Wegmans — Local services in City of Elmira

[UPDATE: I emailed wegmanns and got a phone call back. The store manager apologised and sent me a $25 gift card in the mail. As for them not putting food out he explained that after christmas they see a drop in sales by 70%, and this year they are closing it down and apologized for the lack of advertisement, but they are working on it.] I LOVE Ithaca Wegmans and the Binghamton Wegmans, but this Elmira Wegmans has been such a disappointment through the years. We stopped buying meats from there two years ago because we were buying expired meats. Twice, we returned the meat( it's 25 minute drive one way) and exchanged. Tonight, my family and I went to have dinner out and the hot foods were not even put out, and the fruit bar was rancid. We took our fruit home not realizing there condition, and the oranges were fermented. I immediately called and spoke with the evening manager who apologized for not putting out a hot meal, they just didn't feel like it. She tasted the oranges and confirmed they were in fact fermented. I asked for a $10 gift card to make up for the two fruit bars we got. She would not give us anything, because we did not keep our receipt. This Wegmans is so disappointing. I hope corporate takes notice and intervenes...

The store itself is beautiful and clean. Higher end even- definitely caters to the "Target" crowd vs the "Walmart" crowd, if I may. They have a satellite milk unit right at the front of the store so you don't have to walk to the back to get like its typically done in other stores and that is customer service at its best. But the product selection can be abysmal in my opinion- not a whole lot of variety for any given item. For example, maybe 2 flavors of that standard Yoplait yogurt (which is a very popular brand) so its surprising for such a nice store. Some of the shelves seem as though they are thinly stocked so you wonder if they are running low or if they just don't really stock them full. But if you're into the gluten free thing and the natural trend that follows it there is a good amount of real estate dedicated to it. The parking lot just got re-blacktopped so its really nice and they have convenience parking spaces for veterans in addition to handicapped spots. Its a small but thoughtful luxury that they have...

Wegmans has the best produce section around.I love their coffees they make at their cafe.The employees at the cafe are excellent & so friendly.They've got the only health food section around.I love Wegmans but I've got to admit it is more expensive than all the stores around.The pharmacy is incredible!They even deliver to your home for free.At the pharmacy their is an employee named Jeremy who is friendly,knowledgeable and just plain awesome.A few times he has brought my medicine to my home on days when there isn't deliveries which is beyond wonderful & sweet.He is irreplaceable!The pharmacy delivery driver Bill is so sweet & he has also brought my meds to me on days without deliveries.I don't know what I'd do without them since I don't drive & have no family here.I used to take a cab there & back when I could afford the $15.00 round trip cost.It's a beautiful clean store with incredible people in the cafe & pharmacy!I LOVE Wegmans but I wish it wasn't so much costlier than all the other...
