Bool's Flower Shop — Local services in City of Ithaca

I am beyond disappointed with this local shop, a shop who I have referred folks to in the past. That will no longer happen. The short of it is I called, spoke with Christina last week to inquire about a donation of flowers for a client I work with who is in the hospital for a rather lengthy stay. She is in foster care, has numerous health ailments, a history of trauma etc and recently said to me while I was visiting her "Everyone here gets flowers, all I really want is some flowers too to feel like some one is thinking about me." I work for a local organization that does not have room for stuff like flowers in our budget so I have grown used to reaching out to local business and organizations to help- and I have never had the experience I had with Bool's with anyone else in the 14 years I have been doing this work. Their employee Christina was lovely, she said "Sure!" but asked that I call back as they were in the midst of mother's day preparations. I called back today and was told by another employee and the owner essentially "no." Though the owner told me I could come down pick out a few flowers and they'd wrap them for me. Thanks, but not thanks. Before and after this pandemic I have asked for so many things that will help support the young folks I am working with who are struggling and not once have I been treated in such a disappointing manner. The owner told me they will only donate to organizations and I had clearly said to all parties I spoke with that I was calling from the organization I work for, on behalf of a client I work with. So, the short of it is, she did not want to give back, which is fine but she also couldn't just say that without several excuses. I will not do any business here and I will be sure to let others know that this flower shop which has been a successful flower shop as long as I can remember and takes our money, does not give back to people in need in the community. Beautiful flowers. However, there is another reason for the mediocre rating.

I went in with my wife to get a spontaneous bouquet and told them we had a budget of $20. The florist picked out some flowers and asked if we liked them. They were beautiful and my wife was excited, but then she totaled us up for 10 dollars more than our budget. We were asked if we still wanted to go through with the purchase or should she put some flowers back. I agreed to go ahead with the purchase; however I considered walking out then and there.

It may have been an honest mistake, but I felt like this was a sales tactic. Just looking out for those spouses who are really on a budget and don’t want to look cheap in front of their significant others by asking to put some flowers back after their mate he already expressed that they love...

I'm in awe right now!! I called Bool's around 11:30am asking for an arrangement to be delivered to a family member who just lost a loved one..I was totally expecting them not to receive the flowers until late afternoon (which was 100% okay with me). I received a text from that family member by12:30pm that she had just gotten the flowers..ONE HOUR!! How freaking awesome is that?!!
