We did the evening fireworks tour on the 5th of July. It was really nice and well worth the money! Pros: 1) You could bring your own cooler/beverages. 2) The boat wasn't at all crowded. 3) They had a really nice spread of appetizers and desserts which was included. 4)They gave interesting information on the way out. 5) Staff were really friendly and attentive. They wandered among passengers and got to know everyone. Cons: There were really just a couple minor things we thought they could have done better. 1) Once we were stopped to watch the fireworks, they should have had chairs set up on the second floor for better viewing. Everyone was kind of crammed at the front of the boat for in order to see and had to stand, while there was a completely empty upper deck which was blocked off. It would have been a perfect and comfortable viewing area. 2) it would have been nice if the boat was closer to the fireworks. We were pretty far back from where all the other boats were. 3) Music for the ride back would have been great. We heard a few other passengers say the same thing. Pros FAR outweigh the cons... it was a...
Read moreI spent several nights in Ithaca while on my summer vacation in the Finger Lakes. There was more rain than I would have liked, but I made the best of it. I was able to get on the Sunset Salsa Cruise and really enjoyed it. I wasn't there to Salsa at all, but the music was just fine. I may have preferred the regular sunset cruise but that didn't work for my schedule. The boat crew was great --- very friendly & helpful. The boat was clean & comfortable including the bathrooms. Being out on the water was awesome --- great views & relaxing. We didn't get the best sunset for my cruise, but it was still a great time. I definitely recommend taking one of the Discover Cayuga Lake cruises. As a bonus, they allow you to bring on drinks & snacks. My boyfriend enjoyed some beers that he brought on. I had a slight headache, so I just had seltzer. One group was very well prepared & had a nice spread. I really like the mission of Discover Cayuga Lake, because they are all about water quality & education. Get yourself onboard the Teal for a really fun time that also supports a...
Read moreThis was such a fun trip, and just the right length! I believe Covid protocols were still in effect so though the boat seemed "full," it was open and airy and not too close to anyone else. We took an "osprey cruise" and though we did see a few osprey, it was more of a leisurely boat ride than a wildlife tour so just be aware of that. Like, it's not a birding trip or anything! I'm an ornithologist and wanted to see lots of birds... nothing unusual here, really, but a pair of Caspian Terns, at least! The crew was very informative and nice. Guests were also friendly. There were children on board but not many. There were many high schoolers interning or something on the boat. They did a plankton sample mostly for kids but plenty of us adults were interested in the plankton too; that was cool! Anyway, I would definitely recommend this boat and crew and would take another ride...
