They need to seriously train their cashiers and staff better. There was 3 lanes open, 2 were "15 items or less" a couple got in the express lane with...no lie, over 8 bags worth of small groceries. I counted over 40 items and many more were already in their cart. Why do you have an â˘express lane and a â˘cashier/worker if your worker isn't going to do their job and tell that couple to go to a regular line. Then when we had 4 items and the elderly lady in line had 1 item, and many more guest had to wait almost 10 minutes in an "express lane" to cash out.
So you either tell the jerks who tried to screw everyone over to "go to the other lane" and maybe make the rule breakers mad.... and stick by the signs stated. Or, you let then get away with it and screw over and upset multiple groups of people behind them who were following the rules.
When it comes down to it. Stick to the rules. Tell the people they can't be in the express lane and if it makes them mad, at least it didn't hurt all the numerous people behind them who are doing the right thing.
Just one example of how a better trained staff would help the guest experience be more fair and pleasurable.

   Read moreI have been going to this Tops store for many years but only because it is close to home and it has a few items I can't get anywhere else. I also shop at Wegman's and Budway's occasionally. I have found that quite often Tops definitely increases there prices on different items I buy on regular basis. On some items I buy I have found the same item at Wegman's up to two dollars cheaper. I DoD bring this up to a store manager awhile ago that because of rising prices he got kind of arrogant with me and talked to me like I was some kind of fool.
