The pieces played were described as world music and it was appropriate given the three performers were out of this world! Oud, pipa, and harp ( as designed by the performer) combined perfectly in melodic pieces (solo, dio, and trio) and other times in a nicely rocking way! WOW! The pipa player, Ms. Hong provided in-between song explanation of the origin of the band and the songs (all improvised!). Her discussions were funny, insightful, and heartwarming. It made me wonder why people this talented, smart, and caring can't run the world!
Hats off to the Zankel Center for hosting such a treasure of a show! Other points to be commended were the ease of online ticket purchase, being able to save the ticket to your phone without difficulty, reducing any distractions during the show, and having a nice kiosk for selling CDs (I bought all four!). The performers came put to meet the enthusiastic audience in the area right outside of the concert hall, which was very nice. Read moreUpdated review 2024: Reduced to 1 star due to unsafe campus. Be careful on campus at night. Last month an older woman was harassed by a student in the Zankel parking lot and this month 4 students (3 boys/ 1 girl) stole the id and leash off and old man and a service dog right in the Zankel auditorium! The they are targeting old people who are alone.
