We booked approximately 18 rooms and stayed from 1/14-1/16. This was for an all girls U12 Hockey team. This hotel was not friendly to athletes or children. At first they would not even allow us to bring our hockey bags into the hotel. Our coach had to speak with them and they provided us with a conference room that was also shared with another team and unlocked. As anyone knows who plays hockey, gear usually needs to be taken out the bag and spread out to dry this was not possible. We are travel team and have never had an issue with bringing our hockey bags into our hotel room. Again, we have stayed at many hotels for traveling (mostly Courtyards) and my kids had never been treated with such disdain as from this hotel staff. When you have a group of 11/12 year old girls, they are going to laugh, they may scream a little in excitement, and they may run a little. If anyone has ever dealt with children or teens this is what to be expected. This hotel is definitely not accepting of any of this type of behavior. We were yelled at in the lobby for laughing and clapping, chased by manager for running down the hall, and my kids were told that we were the reason that money had to be refunded to other guests. We had a 9PM team curfew. It was not us. Mind you all this behavior was before 10:00 PM. We were originally told we could have a pizza party for the kids in the lobby for the team; however, after witnessing how completely intolerant the staff was earlier in the day we knew this would not be possible and surely the kids would be yelled at again for being loud. So, to avoid further persecution one of our dads rented the conference for $150, the same one where the teams hockey bags were stored, we were told we couldn't use the other one. My team did not destroy any property and were not causing any type of major disruption. The hotel staff was just intolerant to children and made it clear we were unwelcome. At the end of my stay I asked the front desk staff what time check out was and as I walked away I overheard the manager state, "that there would be no extended check out ESPECIALLY for them." I definitely would have stayed elsewhere if the hotel would have stated they were not accommodating to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpon check in the gentleman at the front desk was dealing with a disgruntle customer on the phone. He was the only person working the front desk. I had to wait more than 15 mins before getting checked in. One woman came over and tried to assist but she stated that she couldn't do check in's. This was frustrating seeing as we just had a 6 hour drive to Saratoga Springs and was anxious to get to our room.
Later on that evening (Thursday) we asked the front desk for extra pillows and towels. The gentleman at the front desk said he was the only one working and he didn't know where the pillows were and asked us if we could wait until tomorrow. This was disappointing and we were surprised to not have that simple request fulfilled.
The next day (Friday) we left our room at 10AM and left the bed unmade and all of our towels on the floor for maid service. We returned to our room at 1AM to find no one came to service our room. Towels were still on the floor and the bed was unmade. This was very upsetting as we had a long day and was looking forward to getting back to our room. Kit at the front desk was very kind and said she would give us points and she offered to come make the bed for us. I told her that wasn't necessary but we truly appreciated the gesture. She came to our room a short time later to give us fresh towels.
Saturday morning we left our room around 9:30AM and did not return till 1:45AM. It was a long and exhausting day for us. We made our way back to our room with our cooler and bags ready to crash for the rest of the night. Unfortunately when we got to our room both of our keys did not work! We could not believe this was happening. We then had to go back down to the front desk where we found Kit again. She apologized and realized how frustrated we were. She reactivated our keys and we were able to get back into our room at 2AM.
I travel a lot and I am exclusive to Marriott. I am so disappointed with this experience and had no answers as to why any of these things occurred. There was nothing relaxing about getting back to our hotel room on our entire stay in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was attending a conference so I like to unwind in my room and I was able to do so with ease. If anyone is traveling from a city where they are use to public transportation, I would say that a car will be more than helpful. There is a rental company near by (Hertz 1.8 miles away) , they will not pick you up, but the the Courtyard has a complimentary shuttle service that will take you there.
The hotel is about 1 km northeast of the downtown area, as I live in a big city I appreciated its location - not too close to heavy traffic or pedestrian activity. Yet, if we wanted to go sightseeing or on a stroll (and we did), that was possible to return to a quiet place perched on a hill.
The staff was friendly and enhanced the stay and there are restaurants that will deliver to your room if you do not wish to venture out. I like the Keurig machines, we were able to use our own pods as I like a nice dark roast in comparison to the light/medium roast pods the hotel provided.
In the future if I want a place to get away from the compressed hectic chaos of a big city, I will return so that I can have a weekend or week of peace to do some writing. Although I would probably do it in the fall after the summer races and parents drop their kids off to the...
