Absolutely horrible! The worst internet provider I have ever had for the highest price.
Everywhere I have lived has been out in the country. The kind of places where you have to drive 20-30 minutes for groceries. I'm used to slower internet compared to cities like Wilmington. However, star communications is basically committing highway robbery! $75/month for 10mbps is absolutely ludicrous! They are the only provider for internet here other than satellite internet. We need internet for my husband's job. I've had their internet service for 3 weeks now and I've had to restart my router at LEAST twice a week the whole time I've been using their service. When we initially signed up, they told us it would be up to 5 business days before they would install and that they would call us a WHOLE DAY in advance before they came out. On the 5th business day, I go out to get groceries(30 minutes each way) I get a call from them that they are 5 minutes from my house and want to come install our internet. So much for a head's up! So far I have very displeased with this service WILL be switching providers as soon as another one become available in my area if Star Communications does not get with the times and provide faster internet. I miss living in an area where ATMC was an option. They are a membership co-op like Star but do a much better job for better prices.
UPDATE: The customer service is also terrible. We've been customers since November 2018. We've called several times because we have yet to receive a paper bill. They will not send us one. Not even a digital one through email. Even though we've called multiple times to verify our mailing address. This company is awful. I hope spectrum comes to town. People in Wilmington constantly complain about spectrum but it can't be any worse than Star. As soon as another company(other than satellite internet) comes to town I WILL be leaving star communications. I wish I could give ZERO stars.
2020 update: Our bill has managed to now become $98/month even though we were originally quoted $75. Not only that, my husband called asking for my name to be added to our account so that it was easier for me to make payments(because we STILL weren't receiving a paper bill!)They then tell us that we didn't have an account with them for months. How is that possible considering we had been receiving internet for months and we had been paying them for MONTHS. Then they say we need to pay a "reconnection fee." RECONNECTION?? We were never disconnected and had been paying all along. It makes me sick to me stomach when I think of how absolutely...
Read moreThe reviews I have read are about the Company, not about the Store. I am giving a review of the Store. The store is clean, organized, and there is lots of seating to watch TV. I find the sign in station tedious. I don't like having to fill out this form even when there is no one waiting. Once a person acknowledges that I am there I receive good service. Not great service, just good service. My issue isn't always resolved, but the staff is professional and polite. Communication within the organization is lacking. I wanted to upgrade to fiber optic cable. The office personnel said it was coming; a technician working in my area told me the fiber optic was already in my area and just needed to be hooked up at my house. I am disappointed that I cannot exchange equipment at the store; I have to wait for a technician to come out to exchange the equipment. I do appreciate that when I make an appointment the technician does come out within...
Read moreBy far the worst internet provider in the state. Their only check is a speed test and if that registers fine then they think that means the internet must be fine. The techs that come to your house are inbred good ol boys that have to call home for damn near everything. They'll make every excuse in the book for why they can't do this or that. I can only imagine how much money they pocketed from the grants they received to put out a better service. They are leeches that steal your money while you overpay for a subpar service. I can speed test 500 down 100 up with a 50ish latency. The second I try to actually use it those numbers are out the window. Anything I need a decent ping on sits around 150ms with 20-30% packet loss. They don't allow UPNP codes. Stuck on ipv4 when everyone else is on ipv6. Its just absolutely amazing the monopoly they hold on the 3 or 4 counties...
