Was there a couple of days ago, came in looking to buy a firearm, specifically a handgun. Went to the back, the first thing the guys says is, "The background check database is down, can't sell any firearms". That was a bummer, but those things happen, especially right now, with everyone trying to buy a gun. Walked out with my friend, back to the truck. While sitting there, I contacted a couple more places, they said the checks were going fine. I thought, that's weird, I bet the Rural King guy hasn't even checked this morning, seeing as we came in when the store had just opened. So about 2 hours after opening, we called inside and asked to speak to someone about a firearm, the cut us off mid sentence to let us know, the background checks were down. So I had my friend call another couple places to see what they said. Both dealers said the checks were going fine. These Rural King people either didn't want to sell a gun, or were to lazy to see if the checks were back on. Also, each time we asked, they were super rude and cut us off while we were talking. The guy at the counter by the firearms acted like an overbearing bully as well. He was very unapproachable. I wont be dealing with this place ever again if that is the kind of service I can expect. To beat it all, I was excited when I found out Pikeville Ky was getting a Rural King. Anyway, we left there, went to another couple places, purchased guns and went home. I would suggest, if you're looking for a firearm in the Pikeville Ky area, Go to Robinette's on Zebulon or Mountain Firearms on Foggy Mountain, great people, with...
Read moreI bought 6 chicks on August 20th. I asked very specifically for certain breeds and was charged more for the 'rare' breeds I wanted. It is now September 20th and of the breeds I asked for I only got 1. 2 of them are meat birds which I did not want. If charging extra for specific breeds they should know what they're giving me. Not sure the store will do anything but I will update.
Update: I called the store for 3 weeks until they finally had the chicks in I wanted. I drove an hour to the store and when I went to the chicks they only had 2 of the breeds I wanted and not the others they told me they had just 2.5 hours prior. I asked about this and they had mixed all of the chicks they told me they had into one bin and couldn't guarantee I'd get what I want, which doesn't fix my original issue. They told me they would give me $1 of each chick as compensation for the original mix up. When I told them I would just be back in the same situation since I wouldn't know what is what in the bin of mixed up chicks I was told to call back next week to see if they had what I wanted in stock. I wasted the gas to travel back to the store, ended up with little help, had to leave empty handed, and still have the wrong chicks in the end. Not a good experience, do not recommend buying chicks here, save yourself...
Read moreRural King in Pikeville is a mixed bag, and for me it lands at about three stars. The products themselves are goodâplenty of solid options for what youâd expect from a farm-and-home store. The problem isnât the inventory, itâs the execution. The place is messy, cluttered, and clearly short-staffed, which makes every visit more frustrating than it should be.
The employees who are there seem stretched thin, doing what they can but without the numbers or morale to keep the store running smoothly. You get the sense that team spirit has been replaced by survival modeâitâs every person for themselves, which makes for a tense environment.
Customer service and the return line are where this shows the most. While the staff try to be helpful, the inconsistency in training and lack of experience make the process slow and disorganized. Itâs not that they donât careâitâs that theyâre outmatched by the workload.
All in all, this Rural King has the right products but not the right support to deliver the kind of customer experience it could. With better staffing and stronger leadership, it could easily climb to four or five stars. Until then, expect good goods paired with a rougher trip...
