LA Fitness — Local services in Coconut Creek

I understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way fitness centers are to operate. I am also quite thankful for the efforts made by LA Fitness - Coconut Creek to help prevent the spread of another outbreak.

However, my frustration is with the extent that one particular team member, Moises Fernandez has shown by harassing many club members including myself regarding the fitness centers' facial covering requirement.

In accordance to Broward County Emergency Order 20-13, Attachment 14 - COMMERCIAL GYMS AND FITNESS CENTERS, Patrons must wear facial coverings except when physically working out and during the cool-down portion of their workout.

There are no noticeable signages in or around the fitness center that clearly communicates facial covering requirements. There is also no signage that states whether a club member is required to wear a facial covering while he or she is returning free weights to a rack that is no more than 3-4 feet from the machine that is being used. Furthermore, there is no signage directly stating that a member is to wear a facial covering while moving from one machine to another.

Movement from one machine to another is a routine that is often used by many members via circuit training, continuous training, as well as cooling down in between training sets. Still, Moises has shown to be quite aggressive in his approach to demanding that patrons wear a facial covering during the above-noted movements (physically working out/cooling down).

Over the last few days, I have witnessed Moises harass several members including some who were very disturbed by his approach. On numerous occasions, he made it highly uncomfortable by invading the personal space of club members.

Again, I understand the significance of facial coverings per Emergency Order 20-13 and CDC guidelines. I also understand the policies that are put in place regarding frequent sanitation. However, I am requesting that the practices executed by Moises Fernandez are to be immediately reviewed and corrected.

As a member, I'd like to attend a club where the staff are professional and welcoming. I'd figured to give them a shot, but very much suggest LA Fitness Boca West as an alternative.

Albeit a drive for some, LA Fitness Boca West was a much more pleasant experience...

I believe the branch on Lyons Rd has great potential. On the positive side, it is located in a strategic, convenient location. Large gym facility with plenty of machines, plus relevant restroom areas. In addition, they offer extra services like sauna, large swimming pool and jacuzzi, basket ball court, racket ball courts, group lessons rooms, babies court, all of which cover the needs and expectations of most people. Last, but important, is a very large parking space, all around the facility. On the less positive side, they need to improve the administration. Basic details like paper towel - they only offer 3 stations for such a large area (none of them in the actual gym). To make this worse, often these stations run out of paper.... However, this problem hit its worst on February 27, 2025. They actually ran out of all paper towel in the entire gym. There was not a single paper towel ALL DAY LONG, and the same thing applied to the disinfecting tissues that service the gym area. In addition, when I approached the receptionist about this issue, I was shocked to discover that she was not even aware of the problem.. lol

Other admin weaknesses point to the lack of certain dumbbells, particularly in the 20 lbs range - rarely available. Many machines are old, they break down, and management actually relies on clients to report problems when they should instead become proactive ensuring they offer a reliable service, and implementing a professional maintenance and inspection routine...

Last, the branch would benefit from a more thorough cleaning particularly in the restrooms and locker areas, all day long.

Generally speaking- it’s not a bad gym. I’ve worked out everywhere from CrossFit/ymca/to 24hr fitness gyms so it’s solid. The training staff are friendly but they def are about their money which is not a terrible thing- everyone has to eat; it’s a business. But what got me today was this kid working the front desk. I appear young, but I’m in my mid40’s and he was disrespectful, unhelpful and combative. When I asked him for help he was indifferent and acted like I was interrupting his day. He could have pointed me to someone who did know, but instead he opted to give me an attitude. When I asked if this was the customer service he was providing, he told me “this is the front desk.” When I addressed his attitude- he tried to gaslight me like I was over reacting. He actually used the words “I don’t care”. This kid is barely 22 and disrespectful. Standing in the middle of the reception area twirling his hair. It’s ridiculous. Stop hiring kids who don’t know how to treat paying guests. I don’t leave my day job to come to the gym for an attitude. But to me the fact he told a guest, “I don’t care” when I told him he was being rude is the type of thing I’d write my staff up for.

As per the machines- these guys in here are equipment hogs. Someone should be timing them, I did 3 sets of 3 different exercises and this guy was still setting up to get onto the machine next me. A lot muscle heads and guys over compensating in there. But yay...
