I had a very disappointing experience at the duty-free store in Atlanta Airport. I purchased a Toblerone for $12 and was told that if I allowed them to deliver it to the gate, I wouldnāt have to pay taxes. I agreed and was told I just needed to show the receipt at the flight gate.When I got to the gate and showed the receipt, I was shocked to hear that the item had already been handed over to someone else. They gave away my purchase without even verifying a receipt. Thatās unacceptable and unprofessional. When I raised the issue, they promised to deliver the item to my seat on the plane instead. That never happened. A flight attendant later came to me and said someone from the store would contact me by phone or email. I never heard from anyone.After returning from my 3-week vacation, I contacted their customer service. They apologized and promised a refund. Itās now been weeks, and Iāve received neither a refund nor any follow-up. This isnāt about the $12āitās about poor customer service, lack of responsibility, and no accountability. Unfortunately, the staff failed to properly inform me about the restrictions related to duty free liquids and transit regulations. As a result, airport security confiscated the bottle at the next checkpoint.
What makes the situation worse is the storeās complete unwillingness to take any responsibility or offer any refund. I contacted customer service to explain what happened, but they simply stated that once the item is purchased, it's no longer their concernāeven though it was their duty to inform me properly at the point of sale.
This is not just about losing moneyāit's about the principle of good service and accountability. I expected better from a store operating in an international airport, where clear communication and customer care are essential.
