El PATRÓN -Tortilleria — Local services in Columbia

This place is great for what's usually called "authentic" Mexican food. The menu is simple-- it's basically either tacos or burritos done with a very wide variety of meats: barbacoa, lengua (tongue), asada, al pastor, etc. There are also several sort of specialty dishes like flautas with chicken (you get five for $7.99), a chili relleno burrito (delicious!), and several items made from fried or stewed pork skin. What makes this place special is that they make their own tortillas, and they are great.

There's also a big selection of Mexican-style fruit drinks (the mango is to die for) as well as Jarritos sodas, with some flavors I didn't even know they made, like guava.

El Patron sells tortillas to The Root Cellar, where we get a weekly box of meats and produce (a place I also highly recommend), that's how we heard of this Columbia location.

Oh also, the lady at the counter was very nice, so tip her...

My husband and I love this place. Originally from the Southwest, we missed our authentic Mexican food. This place delivers. The tortillas are to die for. The handcrafted tamales are awesome. Fresh Mexican bakery goods are delivered weekly. The proprietors recently added a small grocery section and a seating area. They are now serving hot plate meals during business hours. This is as authentic Mexican as it gets in Colombia, MO. Not a dining experience, this is a "come to the back door and pick up your tamales and menudo" place located in a strip center-And you are lucky enough to get invited into their kitchen for a plate of home-style...

Update 8.31.23: They no longer serve food or have the grocery store. They still have amazing tortillas, but that's it. 😔

You MUST go here if you like me, miss the tortillas from back home, or just want to taste what freshly made, authentic flour and corn tortillas taste like. Once you taste these tortillas, you will never be satisfied eating the stale ones from the supermarket. They opened just a month ago, and I stumbled on them by accident .
