Food Giant — Local services in Columbus

The following is not a review of a grocery store. It is a review of the quality of people who work at this store. I've shopped here, & remember very little about it (I only pay attention to hardware stores). Tornadoes hit the South. One hits Columbus , MS; Mama (my mother in law) lives in Columbus, MS. Honey & Brothers exchange phone calls, Nobody answers Mama's telephone. Check the local newspaper, One story about a little old lady's doll collection, another about a Market Street festival, but no e-dition, & now it's after breakfast after the storm the day before. Nothing on the local television station, just the weather channel going on & on about devastation, destruction, & airborne livestock. Hmmm check google maps. Food Giant is close to Mama, and their telephones work. I tell the woman who answers the phone that there are 3 Chicago families all a'tither (not a southern word) because nobody's heard from Mama and ask if the tornado came close to them. She said that there were trees down over by tabernacle (should that be capitalized?), and somewhereze else (poor imitation of a southern accent). Food Giant's power was down, but everything nearby was (whew) ok. Then she offers to check on Mama when she gets a free moment (OFFERS ?!?!!) . A short time later, the phone rings, she tells us everything's ok, & hands the phone to Mama. Honey gasps, tells Mama 'I love you' & calls the brothers with the news. Everyone can relax & stop worrying. I would name her now, but worry that someone in the corporate tower may not appreciate using company time to help a yankee. Thank You un-named woman for putting an end to our 3 families angst & helping us find out that Mama was ok. Thank You to the corporate genius who hired such a quality employee ! ! Thank you to Food Giant for helping when we asked. If I lived in Columbus, I wouldn't shop for even a single cracker at any other...

Great selection, and the staff was helpful, friendly, and smiling!! While I was waiting in line (and I was only the 2nd person), they opened another register!!! What! I literally did NOT stand in line longer than 5 minutes. SPECTACULAR!! The prices are within reason, the shelves were actually stocked, and the meat department was lovely. Love this place but a cashier that works every morning early is very rude. Everyone else is awesome. All of management is great.
