Review Summary: This basically feels like a self serving gym with a super small staff, and it doesn't feel very welcoming to newcomers. In my experience, If you don't pay for personal training you will have 0 help and it will all be up to you with what you learn, correct techniques, learning how to use equipment, and if you want to stay comitted. You might be saying, "Well, that's what you pay a personal trainer for." - All I'm saying is that It would be nice to know there is staff around that I could ask questions If/when I needed to. It's not bad at all, there's a lot of good equipment, and it's kept clean. Some members like to leave all their stuff lying around, but I assume all gyms are like that. There's just lots of little things that could be improved to make it a better gym and more welcoming and helpful to new members and new lifters.
I am also new to lifting with not much gym experience so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
Full Review:
I have lots of little complaints and downsides.
First, not enough mirrors around the gym. It's really important to be able to look at your form when you are FIRST learning techniques, such as deadlift to avoid injury. I go by myself and have had to learn everything myself. There are no mirrors in front of the designated deadlifting area or a sideview mirror that is close to be able to look at yourself or how your back is positioned. You say there is 8,000 sq ft of mirrors and 10,000 sq ft, but when you are deadlifting the mirror is like 50 ft away and blocked by machine equipment. It may just be a newbie complaint. I don't know. There is no way to know how your form is if you are by yourself without looking into a mirror. Power lifters are professionals and know the correct form.
Second negative is that a lot of police officers and firefighters come to this gym. I'm not knocking them, or saying they shouldn't come here, but it can become a bit excessive at times when there is a whole crew of them standing around just talking and then having to hear their radio chatter the entire time isn't great either. There isn't one time I've been where there isn't either cops or firefighters. The only upside is you know you'll always be safe and protected. You would think that they would have their own workout facility in a city as big as Conway.
Third thing is that there isn't enough staff. Basically it's only staffed by the owner (AFAIK) and he is always doing personal training whenever I'm there and I feel like it wouldn't be a good time to interupt. So if you are brand new to lifting and can't/don't want to pay for personal training good luck. You'll have to put your pride aside and be comfortable looking like a complete fool for a while and be extremely determined if you're learning from scratch because there won't be anyone to ask for help, unless you want to bother other lifters. It would be nice to be able to ask educated employees about things every once in a while.
Not enough TVs around the gym.
Final thing is that sometimes the music just turns off out of the blue and it becomes so quiet you can hear a pin drop. I have no idea why it turns off, or where the controls are, or who controls them. Some days I come in - radio is on, other days it's off, some days it randomly turns off. Just a slightly...
Read moreGreat gym, the floors are kept clean and don't leave any black marks or scuffs from the floor mats like the other gyms do.
The place does get overcrowded at peak hours but it's honestly pretty manageable.
I'm loving the new plates that are coming in soon.
I've been here for about 5 months and enjoy the steady improvements to the gym.
For example: I noticed the floor around the cables we always overcrowded by handles and attachments for the cables. But ever since I saw a paper taped the the cables that said to rerack the attachments, I never saw anymore on the floor. But now I feel as if some have gotten lazy and don't care anymore sadly
Oh, BTW, to the guy who's always leaving 315-345lbs on the deadlift platform every Friday night, I pray you get stronger soon. Because I'm tired of taking the weights off to warm up for deadlifts on Sunday mornings.
Just because you watch gym edits about people working out instead of "partying" on Friday doesn't mean the guys in the edits pick up after...
