I am a local tattoo artist and a member of The Satanic Temple, which is a political organization that uses shock value to gain attention, so I have a baphomet star on the hood of my car, a pentagram tattooed on my chin and an upside down cross tattooed on my neck. I’m not against Christianity but I am against forcing religious beliefs and practices on people who don’t ask for it. I’ve read some reviews and this store is not deserving of one, two or three star reviews. They are extremely friendly, even to me, and I look like a heathen jerk. Their causes are just and their intentions are pure. The Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic was so helpful to my wife and I when we weren’t sure if she was pregnant or not, they got us an ultrasound the same day and offered us free diapers and such, we didn’t take them but if we were less fortunate then it would have been a beautiful worldly blessing made possible by donations collected in part by this store. I absolutely love the place and yeah if you go thrifting and search for overpriced used items then you will find them anywhere. Overall the items in the store have a surprisingly low price tag and maybe if you see something that you think is overpriced, maybe buy that item and give it to someone you know for free. That way you can donate money to beautiful charities and an individual, even maybe bring some peace to your own spirit. I don’t know, people are such haters and it really is sad . I completely support this charitable establishment and will refuse my services to anyone who speaks against them.

I was so so disappointed with my shopping experience there today. I laid the things down I was going to purchase when I overheard a employee, brown haired woman with glasses bad mouthing a customer to the male cashier. The customer she was bad mouthing simply questioned her on the $14.99 pricing of a umbrella stroller and $4.99 pricing of children’s bottoms. I spoke up and said y’all have drastically increased your pricing. She got very defensive and said well everything has gone up, we had to get more in line with everyone else’s prices. In my opinion, that is the wrong attitude of a charitable organization that should be there to serve the community with their pricing, not raise their pricing to service another project. They have raised the clothing prices to be more in line with Goodwill prices and no longer have bag sales or 50%off. The sign just said 25% off on Thursday for military, seniors, teachers & students. Why would anyone pay $7.99 for Walmart brand bottoms, that are used? They also have increased pricing on housewares, I mean $9.99 for a newish glass Anchor Hocking measuring cup. I used to love shopping here, I doubt I will be back.

It's an ok place, prices tend to be a bit on the high side. If you take issue with better than you type Christians probably don't speak with the owner. I've overheard her bragging about saving 6 babies in a weekend and that she doesn't make money from the store. I guess she forgot that anyone can look up a 501c and see that she and her husband didn't do too bad last year. I found the restrooms particularly odd. Eta, I wouldn't call her and her husbands salary small. Granted it's not a fortune, lots of families survive on less. Unless you say the funding is completely separate it's the same as taking a salary from the store.

If you're looking for a good place to buy a mattress don't go to Serenity Thrift. They sell refurbished mattresses and were recommended to us as a place to get an affordable mattress. We paid $400 for a queen size mattress box spring and frame. They didn't include the feet for the frame and tried to convince us that was just how it was made which is fine. That's an easy fix. However after taking the plastic off the mattress we realized that it smelled like cigarettes. My fiancé contacted them over a week ago to talk about this issue and how to resolve it. They told us not to attempted to neutralize the smell until they got back to us which they finally did yesterday to tell us that they weren't going to do anything to resolve this issue. So if you're in Cookeville, TN looking for a good mattress deal don't go to this place. There's no telling what your mattress is going to smell like when...
