El Magueyal Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Cookeville

I love this restaurant. I eat there regularly. When time allows, I eat in the restaurant. Other times I call in a to-go order. Either way, the food has always been great. When eating in the restaurant, the service is always good to great. When placing to-go orders, that's unfortunately not always the case. It sometimes seems they wait till I actually get there before they even start preparing my order. I'm always told when calling that my food will be ready in 10 to 15 minutes. It typically takes me about 12 minutes to get there if I leave as soon as I hang up. When I get there, many times I have to stand around for at least another 15 minutes, sometimes considerably longer, before they have it ready. This happens whether they are busy or not. Don't get me wrong, I can understand several reasons why this might be. I just don't like to be intentionally misled. Especially by a business I frequent so often; a business that has a lot of competition in the area. Let me start by saying, my family & I LOVE THIS PLACE! The staff is kind & friendly & I've NEVER had to wait longer than 5 minutes for a table. Their food has top notch flavor & can easily be compared to El Tap, but is super easy on your wallet. They also have a kids menu (my kids get the Tenders & Fries EVERY time). The food comes out quick & is always hot. I'd definitely recommend El Magueyal if you're on this side of town & are looking for a quick (& delicious) bite to eat. My husband says he doesn't like Mexican food and he never wants to go. Well, that changed last night. First we ordered drinks and an appetizer. The drinks were good.. But the appetizer was great. It came out fresh and hot., and was delicious. Both of us ordered meals we'd never tried before. My meal came out first and there was a small wait for my husband's dinner. All the vegetables in my plate were fresh. The meats were cooked to perfection, and the seasoning was spot on.My husbands chimichangas looked and tasted great.
