I ran out of space in my previous review so I am continuing here. I decided to reach out to the Provost office and bring up my concern. I am then informed they would reach out to the SON and address this concern. Sure enough after brining up the fact that I was denied admission because of my pending course, I have Mr. Kilpatrick that now says the reason I was denied was because my prerequisite GPA was just below the minimum. This raised more concern because again I do not understand how I get accepted into Johns Hopkins which has a higher minimum GPA and not UM. Upon viewing Mr. Kilpatrick email I see that they incorporated courses into my GPA that did not need to be taken into account, and of course those courses caused a discrepancy in my GPA. I bring forth that they made a mistake in their calculation and then I get a response from Ms. Cindy Munro stating "We have a standardized process for calculating GPAs that is applied consistently to every application; your GPA was calculated using the same process that was used for every other application. I will also reiterate Assistant Dean Kilpatrick’s statement that we use a holistic application review with multiple data points- GPA is only one element of the application." Again I try to explain to her that they incorporated courses that didn't need to be accounted for in my GPA and send the proof that shows discrepancy and from that point forward I have gotten ignored.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND IF YOU ARE READING THIS REFRAIN FROM APPLYING TO UM. THE STAFF AT THE SON IS INCOMPETENT, AND DO NOT HAVE ANY FORM OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. I GUESS THE FIRST COMMENT MADE ON THIS REVIEW ABOUT PERSISTENCY STAYS TRUE. SON AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI IS BY FAR THE WORST SCHOOL ANYONE CAN APPLY TO! SAVE YOURSELF THE...
Read moreIf you ever listen to a review, please let it be this one. DO NOT COME HERE FOR THE ABSN program. This school is a SCAM money grab program. They DO NOT care if you fail, they DO NOT help you. The solution is always "drop the class" or fail the class. Wait an entire semester out of the program and then take it again. The test questions are pulled out of left field. You are paying 15k for a professor to read a ppt and talk super fast and then test you on information they might not even have had time to cover. If you make up an exam because you are SICK even if a dr. writes a letter or you show hospital docs. you are punished and forced to take a written short response exam. Take your money to other schools where you not only graduate but finish with a high GPA. you will be screwed if you ever want to apply to grad school after this program. They give you exams the day after your clinicals. and refuse to move them. The schedule is an absolute DISASTER. some classes you will have 100 page outlines and one day to go over them by the time you are done. To then take the exam and fail because they add stuff that you have no idea where it even came from. Prof, dont create exams course coordinators do. They will FAIL you by 2 points in a class as if its not nearly impossible to get through it you miss two points and you have to take the whole thing again. no extra assignments by thee way just exams and some eaq q's. I hope this helps someone make a...
Read moreI cannot say why there aren't more positive reviews of the nursing school here at the University of Miami but let me be clear that this place will challenge you as most quality nursing programs do. As a graduate of both the ABSN program and the full-time Family NP program, I learned immensely and thoroughly. This is not to say that there aren't some organizational issues that you may face during your time. This is not to say that some professors do not read from their PPT but the content, study aids, and structure there will prepare you for any of the boards. The HESIs given in the program had me running scared but at the end of the day, if you learn the material (not just memorize) you will do just fine on them. I actually had my HESIs bump my grades rather than hurt them.
You will need to be proactive with the material given but the professors are there to assist you in your goals and support as needed. This is NOT a cakewalk, there will be many times you ask yourself why you put yourself through the wringer but as you build a foundation and understanding, the confidence you gain in your clinical skills and judgement is well...
