As almost everyone with a partying bone in their body knows, this was Miami Music Week aka Ultra. Various world famous DJ's come to play in our hometown at multiple venues. I also try to schedule my PTO this weekend for a sort of staycation.
I'm somewhere between my mid and late 40's :) but I still need some magnitude of regular nights out. Instead of Ultra downtown, and in addition to the show at the Clevelander Friday night I came to the "Freestyle Explosion" concert here at my alma mater's on-campus arena.
The show was great! If you grew up during the mid 80's / early 90's especially in Miami, Chicago, the Bronx, LA you know the names: TKA, Lisa Lisa, Stevie B, the Cover Girls and Lil Suzy. Power 96 was the local sponsor and music took me back to afternoons in Westland Mall, sneaking into Casanova and other all ages clubs. Acoustics were pretty good; it's a good place for a 7000 - 8000 seat "specialty" concert.
They had plenty of bars and concession stands in the middle concourse, and the bar food I enjoyed (chicken tenders and house cut chips) were not too bad. They had run out of bbq sauce, and just had regular ketchup. They also didn't sell mojitos but I did enjoy a well-blended Hennessey & Coke, and they did sell Woodbridge Moscato.
One other thing that would have made it better is if they would have had an organized area for autographs and such. I did get to take a picture with...
Read moreDisney on ice April 29th. Disorganized parking structure. No signs to advise of head in parking only. They let you know after you parked. No signs at entrance letting you know that you have to pay for parking. Only realized after I heard other people complaining in line. Then had to go back to pay. Going through security was a mission. Two different security guards at the same place giving conflicting instructions. One was stating to empty your pockets, the other would say to move on through. The other would say stop, then the other would say go at the same time. The saga continued inside. Water advertised at $5 on sign on concession stand. Purchased several items. Math didn't add up so I asked for a receipt. Charged $6 per water. Then added a tip to themselves without letting me know. Requested that they honor the advertised price of the water. They said they could not do anything about it but that they would give me a free pretzel. Let's see, overcharged for four waters and a self imposed tip, was the pretzel really free? Mickey Mouse operation. No pun intended. The performance...
Read moreThe center's screen were large and clearly should the artists performing. Clearly resolution and amazing graphics. Not only that but you clear see the artist from the back row in the top balcony with zero obstructions. The staff were friendly and always worried about our saftey, however this did become annoying at times bc your leg would stick out from the row onto the stairs or you weren't allowed to always be standing. My last upside is the sound quality, amazing, clear, and surrounding. The vocals came in without interruption or peaking or cut offs. The bass was overwhelming, not everyone likes this but for an NCT 127 Concert, it was fitting. Camera and Prop Crews were on point, quick and not distracting or filming the wrong singer. Overall great experience, would recommend coming...
