First off, I wish I could attach pictures to this. I will attempt to at the end.
My husband and I stayed in the EZ Cabin from 09/13-09/15. We got married in Unicoi State Park on 09/15 last year, and wanted to be close this year, for our first anniversary.
Upon pulling up, we noticed that the cabin was located very close to other cabins in the area (I could hear people talking from some of the other cabins from inside our cabin) -- the NEXT thing we noticed was the creepy abandoned bus parked in the gravel driveway of our cabin (broken windows, flat tires, just horror-movie creepy).
Upon entering the cabin, we immediately noticed the dank/musty/mildew smell. We then saw that the light fixtures were dirty, and several lightbulbs throughout the cabin did not work. This is in addition to the fridge leaking inside (wet sandwiches!), as well as a thick layer of loose rust/ashes/dirt/thick metal sand(?? We couldn't figure out WHAT it was!) on top of the wood-burning fireplace. This was our first impression -- within our first 5 minutes of being in the cabin.
Later on, we decided to give the hot tub a try. We quickly changed our minds, due to the look of the cover when we took it off, as well as the hot tub having no headrests, only sharp hard plastic knobs or they once were. The control knobs were also broken off, so we wouldn't have been able to adjust the settings anyway! We took showers instead. The water temp and pressure were pretty good. The tub took about 15 minutes to drain after each of us got out, though, which made me feel kind of gross (wondering what was backing the drain up).
We did not call to try any of this fixed, as it was a ton of stuff that was wrong, and we REALLY just wanted to be left alone for our anniversary weekend, and not have people coming in and out of the cabin to check on the issues. We tried to stay out of the cabin as much as possible, which was not our original plan. So much for drinking a glass of wine on the porch watching the sun set in the mountains! Happy anniversary to us!
Check in/out was easy. Wrong information posted inside the cabin about checkout, though. Customer service were nice and were helpful when I had an issue with our activity passes, and when I called with questions about trash/key drop for checkout

As mentioned in the reply to this review, the owner contact me and left a message on 09/24. I called her back on 09/25 and left a message asking her to call ME back, since apparently she wanted more information. I never received a call back. I can't say I was completely surprised by the lack of further communication, and now that we are a month and a half past the initial review/communication, and two months past the stay itself, I wanted to update. They did refund my payment for the weekend, which I appreciated, however, my point here was more to make them aware that they need to check the rentals themselves periodically, because their cleaning services CLEARLY aren't doing a good job, and the equipment (hot tub, shower drain, fridge, lights) needs to be kept in not broken/missing pieces working order.
The owner seems sweet and I believe she means well, but needs to bulk up on supervisory staff. Just because they're 'doing the best they can' doesn't mean I'm going to give an extra star or two, A-for-effort style. That's misleading in a review - it isn't like they're running a B&B and I'm having breakfast with them every morning; I'm in a cabin with my husband and possibly my 2 little kids (hopefully NOT with Michael Myers camping in the bus outside the cabin. 😑 Please, for the love of God, either mention stuff like that in the descriptions, or get rid of it. Please.).
I may choose to stay with them again, depending on my options -- they have great locations on their rentals, close to where I like to be, which is the only reason I'd be willing to try again. I am a bit nervous due to our last...
Read moreMy fiance' and I, along with my best friend and her husband, had planned an awesome weekend in Helen to celebrate their anniversary, her birthday, and my birthday, as well as our upcoming marriage. Unfortunately, the weather forecast ended up being 100% rain instead of the cool sunny weekend that had been forecast earlier, but we decided to make the best of it. We got to Helen Friday morning, and had a great lunch at the Cafe International. We had booked a great cabin with a pool table and hot tub and were looking forward to a great time. While at lunch, just before our 3:00 pm check-in time, we received a call letting us know that the cabin we had reserved was available, but that the hot tub was no longer working. They had no other cabins available that had a pool table and a hot tub, but did have one opening that had a hot tub. That's where things started to go downhill. When we got to the guard shack to check in, it took about 10 minutes, because the guard could not find our reservation (my name was spelled wrong by 1 letter-hefisimer), I finally got out of the car, walked into the guard shack and showed him our reservation that was easily visible on his table. Then he didn't want to let us in, because it was for the old reservation not the cabin they changed us to. I offered to call the rental agency and showed him the new confirmation email from them on my phone and he finally agreed to let us in. When we got to the new "cabin" about 4:30 pm. we found out that it was not a cabin, but a quadplex...with no gas fireplace, no wifi, and much smaller than the cabin we had booked. The young lady getting the cabin ready was running behind (the place was not quite ready), but let us come in while she finished checking the place out. Needless to say, I was severely disappointed...all of that, on top of the rain...ugh!!! At least the hot tub was large enough to accommodate us, and was on a covered porch (my fiance' is 6' 2" and my friend's husband is 6' 10" and both are big guys).
Shortly after the person getting the place ready left, I received a phone call. The young lady had mentioned that we were very disappointed in the cabin. It was GA Mountain Rentals wanting to know what they could do to make things better - I have to say I was EXTREMELY impressed. I mentioned the disappointment in not having a fire (unless we went back to town to buy firewood) and not only did they send out firewood for us, but also a bottle of wine and some scents for the hot tub - they also gave us a break on pricing, even though the place we were staying was (unbelievably) more expensive than our original booking.
In all, we did have a good time, in spite of everything - including the guys watching a lot of tv instead of the 4 of us playing pool and spending time together. I would have ranked this a 1 or 2 star experience BUT for the willingness of GA Mountain Rentals to make things as right as possible for us. They were not to blame for the breakdown of the hot tub and of course could not control the weather (LOL), but went out of their way to contact us (instead of refusing phone calls or ignoring the situation) and made multiple suggestions to improve the situation and to make us happy. They brought out the wine and firewood within minutes of the phone call, again offering apologies for the situation. I will definitely be booking through them again - the customer service received from them was extraordinary and made what could have been a miserable weekend a...
Read moreThis place of business doesn't even deserve 1 star. We booked our cabin back in March for a fun filled weekend in July. Everything was great until our first night in the cabin. The first thing we noticed was the 1 window unit on the 1st floor was spraying moisture & had the wall & carpet wet. My husband, who happens to be a certified Mold Remediation Tech, also noticed the mold smell in the cabin. After further inspection, it turns out the ENTIRE 1st floor of the cabin was severely infested with mold. I called the after hours number & spoke with Jim. Since they were completely booked, there wasn't anything he could do. He did say he'd give us a refund & pay for the night in a hotel. Unfortunately, all the hotels were booked & we had no choice but to stay. The next day when I spoke with Jim, he started balking on a refund, but after a bit of complaining did manage to tell me 8 people were checking out & they'd get a cabin cleaned & move us. We spent the day shooting the Hooch & did get moved to a nice cabin and even though there were only 2 beds for 5 people, we made it work! After checking out the next day, my husband called to speak to Jim about a 50% refund. We only stayed 2 nights & one ended up being in a mold infested cabin. Jim, however, decided we were not getting a refund. We have filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau & the Georgia Department of Public Health. Renting a cabin infested with mold is a serious health concern, especially since this is their busy season & the cabin has been rented out tons of times. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY & THE HILLTOP HIDEAWAY CABIN! We did receive an email this morning concerning a refund, unfortunately they are still offering below the 50% refund we requested. We only stayed 2 nights & the first night was a nightmare & the 2nd night was in a smaller cabin. We think a 50%...
