I've been going to this shop since my parents moved here in 2002. I loved the original owners. They were easy going and very friendly. However, the current owner(s) does not have good customer service skills. I took four years of business classes in high school and have owned two businesses and I know what good management is and certainly how to treat customers. This owner clearly missed those classes in school.
A couple Saturday's ago my sister and I went to Sweetwater to have coffee and chat. I bought a lovely handmade coffee mug from the collection of local artist made pottery they sell in their shop. I paid for an Americano to enjoy in my new mug. Later, I asked to buy just a cup of coffee. I could see how busy the place was, but the gal took my mug, looked in it, saw the leftover coffee in the mug and just topped it off. LUKE-WARM COFFEE is not what I expect when I pay more than $2.50 for a cup of coffee. I didn't say anything then because the cashier was running around, but I thought I would stop by another time and bring up the situation and ask for a free cup of coffee.
I stopped by the shop yesterday morning. There were no other customers in the store. A young lady standing behind the register and she listened to my story. She told me she would ask the manager and get back with me. She came out from the kitchen and said, "Sorry but it isn't our policy to give a free cup of coffee." What? What did I just hear? Did she really say that? I asked her if I could speak with the manager and the gal said she already had spoken with her. I asked for the manager's name. The gal waited a couple seconds and reluctantly said, "Jen". You'd think it was some kind of secret.
This business fails to grasp what customer service looks like. I can't believe this shop not only lost my business for life, but now faces bad reviews and the word-of-mouth around Sky Lake where my dad lives. All over a $2.50 cup of coffee!!! This place couldn't right a wrong and satisfy a dissatisfied customer. TIMES SURE HAVE CHANGED. I will never step foot in...
Read moreWe visited this place 2 times over the weekend and were greeted multiple times by rude service and nonchalant staff. The first day we came on a Saturday, where it looked to be obviously short staffed. The barista was taking both coffee orders and making the coffee where 2 folks sat in the back making food. The long brown haired man didn’t appear to be helping at all. Just looking on as the rest of the staff run around. Despite having patience and waiting over 15 minutes in line, when we got to the front the barista was rude and made us sound dumb for asking if they had scones available - something they never seem to have ready. She said, “we have them but they’re not baked as you can tell we don’t have time to bake them with how busy we are.” Talk about friendly staff.
The next day we went in, they were less busy. And surprise surprise, they had been opened for 3+ hours, not busy at all, the staff all visibly shooting the breeze in front, and still no scones. And when giving the drink to my husband, the barista mumbled the name of the drink. So when he clarified what the woman had said, she seemed visibly offended that he didn’t understand what she said, and gave a snarky response back. She said something related to “honey comb”, but he thought she said “honey carm,” so he wanted to clarify. Instead of offering an apology for her visceral reaction to his question, she just gave a nonchalant chuckle and walked back behind the counter.
This place touts itself as being local and warm. It’s quite the opposite. It’s very cold, unwelcoming, and entitled with how rude the staff operates.
Would highly recommend not coming here. Inconsistent offerings and rude...
Read moreWe were staying in Helen and drove out to see a covered bridge. When we passed this place and saw "espresso", our car came to a screeching halt.
First, the place is SO cute - a house that's a coffee shop! There's plenty of free parking. We went inside and the inside was just as cute (there's plenty of tables inside and nice outdoor seating). The woman inside (owner?) was unbelievably nice - like she had been your friend for your entire life. My friend got an espresso and a wonderful muffin. I LOVED it that the cups were eco-friendly and the place is organic (very Earth-friendly place - I appreciate that). I wasn't getting a coffee because I had already had coffee (I'm a 1-cuper). The lady suggested "decaf" and I think I replied that decaf was similar to "swill". Well, she said - please try mine. She explained how it was decaffeinated and said to trust her. I did trust her and got a cup of decaf. It was AMAZING!! Really, so delicious. We came away with such a lovely impression of this amazing place. We were only in town 2 days, but the next morning we went back and my friend got another espresso.
They also serve muffins and food, and I wish I had been there long enough to try something else. I love supporting small, independent businesses! This was a charming place - find it and go there for a great cup of coffee and...
