There are literally no words for Jason Atkins… which is awkward because I’m writing a review. But I’ll do my best. Jason isn’t just a hairstylist. He’s a wizard. A therapist. A life coach with shears. He is the owner/operator of Tomahawk in Costa Mesa — a salon so cool, I feel like I need to show ID just to walk in. (Not because of my age. Just to prove I belong.) I was referred to Jason by an actual rockstar — and yes, Jason does hair for actual rockstars. And then there’s me: a regular dude with gray hair, no entourage, and a standing haircut appointment every three weeks like clockwork. Somehow, Jason still makes me feel like a frontman on a world tour. My head has never looked so good. Now, full disclosure: he’s not the cheapest in town. But he’s not charging private jet prices either. He’s like the first-class upgrade of hair — you don’t need it, but once you experience it, coach just feels wrong. What really sets Jason apart, though, is that every appointment feels like a combo of hair, healing, and hilarious banter. We’ve swapped life stories, laughed about the absurd stuff, and he’s been incredibly thoughtful and flexible when I’ve faced serious health stuff. The guy just gets it. So yeah — if you’re looking for a haircut, you can go anywhere. But if you’re looking for a transformation, a friend, and the best damn hair stulist this side of the Sunset Strip? Go to Tomahawk. Ask for Jason. Just don’t take my slot. I’ve got gray to maintain.

I had the most amazing experience at Tomahawk, all thanks to my incredible stylist Karina! From the moment I sat in the chair, she made me feel completely at ease, taking the time to ask about my preferences and what I hoped to achieve. She was not only talented but also had such a warm, welcoming energy that made the entire experience feel like a mini getaway. As she worked her magic, every step—from the soothing scalp massage to the careful, precise cuts—felt like pure indulgence. My hair turned out even better than I imagined, with a perfect blend of volume and shine that suited me so well. I left feeling more confident and refreshed, and I can’t wait for my next appointment with her. It’s rare to find someone who truly understands your hair and makes the experience so enjoyable!

I've been going to Jason to cut my hair since 2005 and I would never even consider another stylist. He's friendly, professional, and has a passion for his industry that is obvious by the quality of his work. If you're on the fence I'm here to say you're in good hands!

I’ve been a loyal customer of Tomahawk Hair Salon and Jason, the owner, for over 15 years, and I can’t say enough good things about his work. Jason has been cutting my hair since day one, and he’s also been cutting my children’s hair since they were just 2 years old—they’re now both in high school and still love him just as much.

Jason has an incredible ability to connect with each of us individually. He doesn’t just give a great haircut; he truly listens and understands what we’re looking for. My kids have tried other places a few times, but they always end up devastated and going back to Jason to get things fixed right away. He knows exactly how to make them feel comfortable and help them decide on the best look, which isn’t easy with teenagers!

He’s also fantastic at giving advice on how to keep our hair healthy and thick, which has been really helpful over the years. While I can only speak to his basic services like cuts and trims, which are top-notch, I’m sure he’d be just as amazing with more advanced treatments like color or extensions.

Jason is always there to help me out, and I appreciate his flexibility in scheduling, though I will say he’s become so popular that I now have to book my appointments a month in advance! But honestly, that’s a testament to how great he is—once you go to him, you’re hooked for life.

If you’re looking for a stylist who’s not only skilled but also genuinely cares about his clients, look no further than Jason at Tomahawk Hair Salon. Just be warned: once you experience his work, you’ll never want to go...
