I’m completely appalled at how an employee named Dee treated my 75-year-old mother during our first visit to the Lindbergh location of Jackman’s Fabrics on 7/12/25. I visited with my mother, excited to shop for fabric, but that excitement quickly turned into frustration and disgust after interacting with Dee at the fabric counter.
From the start, Dee made it clear she didn’t want to help us. She used a dismissive and condescending tone, and acted like we were an inconvenience. My mother thought Dee had asked for her name, so she gave it — Dee snapped, “What is it that you need?” I explained we wanted to purchase a yard of the fabric that my mom was holding. Instead of helping, she began ranting about an event happening in the store and how the event customers kept trying to check in at the fabric counter. She was clearly frustrated. When I told her that her frustration was no excuse for disrespecting us, she became defensive.
When my mother politely asked the price of the fabric, Dee pointed to a tiny tag and said sarcastically, “What does that say?” I explained to her it was our first time in the store and asked for assistance without rudeness. She claimed she was helping, all while continuing to speak rudely. When I asked to speak with a manager, she stated she was the manager, which was even more concerning.
We left empty-handed and will not return. If a manager can so freely belittle a new customer, especially a senior, I can only imagine how she treats other customers and staff. Jackman’s has lost our business for good.
We’ll gladly support a business that values basic decency and service when engaging...
Read moreI spend a lot of time at Jackman’s.
It’s not because of the fabulous fabric selection that makes it difficult to avoid adding to my stash. The knowledgeable staff in the fabric department that is willing to help coordinate fabrics is not the reason. The sewn projects that are on display cannot be the reason. The class schedule is awesome, but is not the reason.
The machine department staff provides free lifelong lessons for the machines they sell. This cannot be the reason. They provide software lessons. Again, I am afraid this is not the reason. Could the reason be that help and encouragement is available when needed for project difficulties? That is not it. They offer sit-n-sew classes that expand my knowledge by creating projects that teach new techniques and machine operations that are unexplored. Could this be why I spend my time at Jackman’s? This is still not the answer.
The seminars provided present me with opportunities to gain knowledge and apply technique. Could this be the reason? No.
These are all excellent reasons to spend time at Jackman’s. However, individual reasons do not provide the answer and neither do all the reasons together, although they are powerful and most would be content with any or all of them.
I spend my time at Jackman’s because it feels more like family...
Read moreI can't say enough about Jackman's in St. Louis. I moved back to St. Charles two years ago and immediately looked them up, as I remembered how great a store they were from living here before. Everyone always greets me with a welcoming smile and have no problem coming out from behind the counter to help me find just the right fabric for my quilting project. The employees in the sewing machine department are always ready to answer my questions about my new sewing/embroidery machine and to assist me with the correct thread for my current embroidery project. I feel like I am one of the family here. I have attended two of their events and each time had so much fun as well as learning new techniques. Bill in the service department is great and he understands how we quilters live and breathe by how well our sewing machines are operating. This store is just what every quilter loves to find -- friendly, helpful people and a wonderful selection of top quality fabrics. Jackman's is to be congratulated on having checked all the boxes that quilters look for in an exemplary fabric/sewing machine store. I feel that they are the best in St. Louis, and it is rare that I don't find exactly the fabric I need to make a project. Really love...
