I was extremely disappointed with the cake I received for my daughter’s birthday. I paid $155 for a custom cake and expected something polished and professional. I want to emphasize that I understood the cake would be a single-tiered version of the inspiration photo, not a two-tiered design, and that the toppers would be printed edible images. I had realistic expectations, knowing it wouldn’t be an exact match, but even with these adjustments, what I received wasn’t close to what we discussed.
On the day of pickup, my original pickup window was 9:30–11:30 AM. However, the baker emailed me that morning, saying the fondant wasn’t dry and asked if I could pick it up later between 12:00 and 4:00 PM. I told her I could come later, and she replied, “Thank you for being flexible! Let’s do 4, just to be safe.” Looking at the final product, it appeared rushed and poorly executed, suggesting the cake may not have been prepared in advance.
The pastel, muted colors clashed with the bold theme I requested, and the paw prints and bone decorations were minimal and poorly done. Skye and Everest, who were supposed to be the focus of the theme, weren’t incorporated thoughtfully, even as edible toppers. To make things worse, the glittery “5” was applied unevenly and looked hastily added, giving the cake an overall sloppy and unfinished appearance. The cake itself was extremely hard, as if it had been frozen, and the fondant was off in both texture and flavor, which added to the disappointment.
After receiving the cake, I emailed the owner with detailed feedback and gave her the opportunity to address my concerns, but I never received a response. This lack of communication was especially disappointing given the amount I paid ($331 total for cookies and cake) and the importance of the event. If they couldn’t deliver what I wanted, they should have told me upfront instead of accepting the order and producing something so far off from what was discussed. The cake was supposed to be the centerpiece of my daughter’s party, and this result negatively impacted the event. While the cookies looked okay, even they weren’t the colors I requested.
I cannot recommend this business, as I spent a lot of money and did not receive a product worth the price, and my concerns...
Read moreI ordered a Spider-Man themed cake for my son’s 6th birthday. I also ordered cupcakes. They were beautifully decorated and communications went well. I wanted to try something other than a sheet cake and selected this business because of the reviews. The cake was dense, dry and not very good. The icing was great on the cupcakes but the same dryness. In hindsight, I should’ve tried out the bakery with a small order before ordering a $200 cake/cupcakes. Either way, I was disappointed and the children and adults at the party barely ate any of it. This is not a bakery I’d recommend for a children’s party (unless you are mostly interested in the look of it and buy a cake elsewhere to serve). I should also note that this is a residential location and while there is no problem with that, it might’ve helped if in the pickup info, that was noted. I don’t usually leave reviews but the cake was the highlight of my party and was the...
Read moreI ordered cookies for our son’s Rehearsal Dinner held at the end of August. I worked with Kerry as well as Stephanie (the owner), both of whom were just terrific! Since I don’t live in the area there was a lot of back and forth as I made decisions about cookie shapes and colors. They were so helpful and responsive. And the best part, the cookies were as delicious as they were beautiful!! So yummy!! I chose 7 different wedding themed shapes and they were decorated in white and gold. I also had each bagged and tied with white ribbon so that guests could take them home easily if they could resist eating them immediately; ) It was the perfect extra touch for our Rehearsal Dinner and the bride loved them! I highly recommend Sugar,...
