This market was the second place we went when we moved to Culebra. What a terrible experience! We were yelled at to go away because they were already closed and we didn't have our masks on as we walked up the road. We tried 3 more times to give them our business and each time we were met with hostility by the owner as he enforced his draconian COVID policies. We felt treated like livestock, not customers. On the 4th visit, I did everything by his rules (he makes you wash your hands at an outside sink but provides no towels) and kept my hands in the air as he herded me through the door. I said nothing to him and kept my eyes down so as to show respect. The OWNER took this the wrong way, thought I was mocking him and struck me on the back (!!) then threw me out of the store! Outside he yelled at me in Spanish which I didn't understand, but my wife did. He proceeded to get into a yelling match with my wife calling me a "clown".
This disgusting display of one man's paranoia combined with a narcissistic personality shows how horrible things can get when we allow this pandemic to steal our humanity.
There are several other markets on the island where they treat people like customers so we will NEVER go back to that store until we hear that it has changed owners.
Please shop there at...
Read moreHad a terrible experience in this store. I was assaulted by one of the workers. First of all they are all extremely rude. And they are way overboard with their covid protocols. They make you wash your hands before entering the store, put on a mask, sanitize your hands when u walk in, and they make you walk only in one direction in the store. They also only let one person per family in the store. So me and my mother in law went in separately because we were buying food for the family and I needed to help her. They found out we were together and started yelling at us and demanding that we separate or we have to leave. So we decided that we weren't going to give them our business and we left the carts in the middle of the store and walked out. As I was walking out I told the girl that worked there that they were being psychotic about their covid protocols, and as I was leaving she yanked the back of my shirt collar. I was in complete shock that she put her hands on me. I almost went to the police but then I decided it wasn't even worth it. I hope another grocery store opens on the island because I will never go there again....

From our anchorage just offshore, we were able to dinghy to a dock located just 20 yards from the front door of the store. We were there via boat, but it was obvious from the customers in the store that there were many locals as well as tourists staying on the island shopping there.
Colmado Milka is probably one of the best stocked stores in the Virgin Islands. It's not big, but the selection and variety were incredible. Everything we needed was available. The store has a well-stocked beer and liquor section too! There is also a meat department in the back. Check out was easy too, they take credit cards... the hardest part of the shopping trip was hauling everything back to the dinghy. It took three trips on the dinghy to get all the supplies and personnel back to the catamaran.
Colmado Milka was a great find on this trip. Recommend the store whether you find yourself on Culebra by boat or airplane. The store will likely have...
