Today I had the misfortune to visit Kroger on NW Hwy. Anyone desiring to feel safe from Covid19 transmission would do well to stay away. All major aisles of the store are crowded with large bins of toys and various merchandise down the center, making navigation and evasion challenging. With the exception of the meat/seafood aisle (north wall), this leaves about 4 feet (seems like less with a cart!) for people to pass one another. The meat aisle is slightly wider, but still too close for comfort. Side aisles are just wide enough for two carts to pass. Today I had $90 worth of store credit, but was so distracted trying to keep a safe physical distance from shoppers that I only managed to spend $40 of it. It is claustrophobic even without Covid, and didn't used to be that way. Since Albertson's closed on NW Hwy a few years ago the traffic at Kroger has exploded, however the aisles got narrower when the store remodelled! The self checkouts are only a few feet apart so hold your breath while you're doing Kroger that favor. This morning, one of the clerks was yelling into the PA system, a loud squeal that was then answered by another would-be hog caller. Unprofessional, and VERY annoying, but perhaps a fitting backdrop while playing dodge 'em with the infected. I've been coming here since 1993 and the store has reached a nadir (insert metaphor here). Of course it's been revealed that extra pay for the revered and indispensable front line workers at Kroger has been discontinued--now their combat pay consists of a discount card and a fuel center discount. Corporate profits are through the roof... I shop at three different Aldi's and there is a lot more space with surprisingly wide aisles and no merchandise clutter in the aisles. There I feel safe. Kroger needs to put customer and worker safety first by facilitating social distancing while shopping. This is common sense. ADDENDUM January 20, 2021: Yesterday I read in the Guardian that ALDI is paying their employees a bonus to get the Covid19 vaccine. ...
Read moreOverview: Closing cashier tried to close early and refuse entry to paying customers. Store hours are posted for a reason, and many of us in the community rely on that dependability.
I don’t know her name, but I had a very negative experience with a relatively new store employee tonight (June 7, closing shift).
In short, she decided on her own personal store hours, and attempted to prevent customers from coming into the store to spend money — during open hours!
Apparently, she had taken it upon herself to disable the outer sliding door, but I thought it was just broken or being serviced, so I opened it manually; this happens sometimes, no big deal.
When I entered, however, she approached me and said “we’re closed.” I was confused, as I’d double checked the time when I arrived, and knew the store was not closed yet.
She then explained to me, in a terse and condescending tone, that this Kroger location now closes early. (It doesn’t.)
It was frustrating and humiliating. I will try to avoid her in future, but since nights are usually the only time I can shop, I might not be able to — I might have to find a new store, which would be disappointing as I love Kroger and buy almost all of my groceries here. But no matter how much I like your items, prices, and other associates, it doesn’t make up for being treated that way by an employee.
Further, it’s so inappropriate for a Kroger employee to flagrantly work against both company and customer interests by intentionally closing the door before closing time. Who did that help? Only herself.
And to then aggressively approach customers, to shoo them away? Even worse. And all of this while still on the clock and getting paid. Employees should not be able to invent their own store hours.
I submitted this feedback to corporate as well. Life is hard enough right now for so many of us; I’d appreciate this associate — the only one closing out self checkout Thurs, 7/7 — receiving coaching on closing protocol, as well as basic...
Read moreWorse experience - 1 star should be 1/2 a star Cashier Shelia checked out $85 plus dollars in groceries and left my 84 yr old mother and father to bag their own groceries!!! Sigh...I wasn’t there but I got a call from my mother telling me about the worse experience she had with the cashier, manager, at Kroger. My parents live next door so I know it must of been an awful customer service! Shelia didn’t bag their groceries! She left them standing there after they paid and not one person came to aid them!!!!???? My mother walked over to where Shelia was and confronted her asking her why didn’t you put the groceries in the bag? Why didn’t you send someone to do it if you couldn’t t? Manager was called. He didn’t apologize on behalf of his employee or Kroger. He assured my mother he would view the video tape???!!!!! Then what? He certainly didn’t ask what my parents wanted him to do! He didn’t say what he was gong to do after viewing the video. My parents are Asians. Discrimination is nothing new to them, but this was the first time EVER in 40 yrs they’ve been in USA that they bought so much groceries and bagged it themselves.(Self checkout excluded) They were left standing there with : 24 bottled water, veggies, family size cereals, etc... I unpacked and helped carry it into their home - 12 bags and water bottles . I tried calling the manager but could not get a hold of him. Kroger is where my father gets gas, has credit card, where we purchase most of our ediables but I don’t know if they...
