The Gardener's Center — Local services in Darien

I am writing this after just stopping at the Gardener’s Center and Florist yesterday, 09/25/2019. In brief: I shopped from 10AM-3PM for Autumn and Holiday (Halloween, Dia de Los Muertos, Thanksgiving, etc...). They have such a diverse and interesting plant selection that I could have easily shopped until they closed. The plants were well placed, identified, healthy and strong. The facility was very surprisingly clean, especially considering their forte is with plants in dirt. The crew: Dan, Chip, Nathan, Jaime, Joy, Inez, and the incomparable Lauren were so wonderfully helpful. Dan’s knowledge and charming nature was such a lovely and rare thing to find today. All of the gentlemen were so pleasant and professional. They made it such an extraordinary visit. That could be one of the reasons I was there for so long, although I did buy a bit. If you have any concerns about lifting or carrying heavy dirt filled plant containers there is no need. The gentlemen will do all of that for you. You just have to point. The outside is really just as nice as the inside. They filled up my car and even offered to deliver it for me. I would have taken thrir kind offer but I really like going there, A LOT. And you will, too! They even have a section of past flowered plants, ferns, local wild flowers, etc...which is on sale 1/2 price. You cannot beat that. And inside they have a lovely section of thoughtful fun gifts that will save you from worrying and scratching your head for days! I absolutely had to have this “new” magnetized floating succulent/air plant vase which I am unfortunately gifting my sweetheart for his work for taking me and my best friend to our 3-week/3 Hawai’ian island holiday!!! Oh well, I will just have to buy another the next time I go. The Gardener’s Center and Florist is a Garden/Floral center of the highest calibre. I do recommend you wear comfy shoes and a bottle of water so you can stay longer because I know you are going to want to...

I'm a long time, loyal customer of The Gardner's Center and they always have a great selection of high quality plants. Plus, we LOVE the geode cracking and gold sifting station for kiddos - it's a great family garden shop experience.

Adding to this, they go above and beyond for their customers. Case in point - I was just there and after a series of events I locked my keys and my phone in my car (along with my wallet, Triple A card, etc...). With school pickup looming I panicked. I asked the team if someone could help me out, either by sponsoring an Uber for me that I would reimburse them for, or if someone could run me to my house (a short distance away) so I could get my spare keys. Sean, their general manager immediately offered to have someone drive me, and Jenny (who drove me) was a pleasure to meet, long time Darien resident who used to play in my neighborhood when she was a little girl. She waited while I got my keys and we got back to The Garden Center within 15 minutes of leaving.

There are so many things I can say about this - the importance of shopping local and having relationships, the care this business took of a customer, and the fact that they did not bat an eye before helping. I'm not sure I can adequately articulate what an incredible job Jaime Hayes and her SWAT team of talented artists and florists from The Garden Center did last weekend, but it was beyond gorgeous. We started working on this project last Fall and our clients had a strong vision about what they wanted for their June 2023 coastal Connecticut wedding. It was all about blue and white and hygrandgea. Jaime put together a game plan with details and very specific recommendations for exactly what type of hydrandgea we needed - Verena Blue and White Dutch Hydrangea. And the rest is history. All of the components for the ceremony - a grounded arch, cocktail hour and reception were executed with style and perfection. The head table for the bride + groom, bridal party and family was 48' long and had masses of the blue hydrangea down the center with candles. I mean.....WOW. I have worked with many, many florists as an event planner over the last 20 years or so and Jaime is just simply the best. I can't wait to work with her...
