I have been going to FitWit for almost 6 months now, and wanted to share my perspective on it, since I've really appreciated my time at FitWit.
Fitwit is great if you don't have the motivation to exercise, and you don't know what you are doing, or both! (It's also great for people not in these categories, especially those who want a friendly, social environment to exercise in). I haven't really exercised much for, um, about 30 years since - unless I'm doing something really "practical," like riding a bike to a store -- I just have a really hard time motivating myself to do it: I've tried on my own and just don't get anywhere. Also, when I've gone to a gym, I just have no idea what to do, so I stand around just looking at the machines. Again, no good!
FitWit is basically group gym class. There are two trainers or coaches per class who teach you how to do the exercises and activities, and your fellow FitWiters will help you too, at least with encouragement. The coaches are very supporting and understanding, and so is everyone in the classes. It's a very positive, uplifting environment, where everyone is met "where they are at": there are people at all sorts of fitness levels and body types, and everyone is welcome.
All and all, I am glad to have finally tried FitWit, after many years of hearing people rave about it, since it's really working for me: at least, I'm typically able to get there three days a week and am really enjoying the workouts and am feeling the benefits, especially since I have learned a lot about how to better do the various exercises and feel much more comfortable with everything, compared to when I...
Read moreI have been a FitWit member for the last 4 years - this gym goes far beyond the excellent workouts. The support from the trainers and the community of fellow FitWitters is so unique - no matter where you are in your fitness journey you will be supported, learn to move properly, and break through goals. The Decatur gym added a small-group training program about 3 months ago, developed and coached by Ethan Duff. The tailored coaching has been beneficial for me in so many ways. It really is the best of both FitWit worlds, because you have a program that fits you and helps you with your goals, while also having a supportive group of FitWitters working out along side you and encouraging each other. Ethan puts tremendous thought into the program, with an eye to the long game and smart and healthy movement. Adding the small-group training to my regular FitWit workouts has given me gains in both strength and rehab, and Ethan's expertise and energy make these workouts my favorite way to...
Read moreI have been going to FitWit for the past 6 months and it has definitely been a worthwhile experience. I can't say enough about the gym, their outlook and their trainers. I have been doing personal training with Ethan Duff at the gym but they also have semi-private and class options. They even have after-school classes for kids. They take their COVID protocols seriously and helps ensure that folks feel safe going to the gym.
When I decided to sign up, they asked a lot of questions regarding my goals and what I enjoyed and designed a program around that. Ethan and the other trainers clearly know a lot about fitness and safe ways of improving strength, mobility and conditioning. Definitely a lot easier to keep up with the kids now and I don't have any worries about injuring myself. Even felt good enough to go skiing for the first time in 20 years!
In summary - if you are thinking about joining, do it- you...
