MY Review: moved from out of state and came here. Entered through a side door and a white lady was there handing out paper flyers. She didn't really smile but said hello to me and my wife. We took the flyer and it seemed to describe the various things taking place this morning with this church.
We walked into the church through this hallway and into a greater open room that I would describe as the main entrance. There were people in there having their own conversations and they looked at us and continued on with their discussions but no one acknowledged or even smiled at us. We walked into the church doors next.
We sat down on wooden pews. There were two rows of pews and there was a white lady in her maybe, late 60's, short white hair, leading a discussion. She was holding a thin book in her hands but didn't use it much, it wasn't a Bible though. I would describe this as a discussion on raising kids on how to raise children. The lady standing, leading the discussion would say that Helen White says we should do this and this. Not sure who Helen White is but I'll have to look her up. Perhaps she is a child therapist or something because this lady mentioned Helen many times.
They never said anything from the Bible, it was just more of discussion on people's own thoughts on raising kids. There wasn't too many people in here, it just have been around 10am. They concluded at around 10:45.
Then I noticed the website said church worship begins at 11am, but many people showed up at 11:05 or 11:10am, which kind of gave me the impression they don't really care about being on time or this is not that important to them. Anyways...
I noticed it is a multicultural church, very diverse in attendees, but.... I did pick up immediately, the Caucasians sit on the right side of the church and the africans, hispanics, Mexicans, African Americans, or Jamaicans pretty much all sit on the left. That didn't really look good as I see this church has some sort of divide in it. It is a racial separation. Not a good look.
There was a song service with about 5 African Americans leading out in singing and one African American playing piano. I was expecting the pianist to play that baseball organ, lively, usually out of place, playing that most African American Christian services play for their worship. But this young man didn't do that. He played regular music on piano. The singers were semi enthused about what they sang. One lady up there was very enthused to sing.
The congregation I guess was supposed to sing along but many did not and those who did were sort singing in a whispering tone. As I looked at the congregation, they were not plugged in to this part of the service. It might be wise to stop doing this part of the service because the church was not participating in it.
I was surprised to see the pastor, he stood up and said he is the associate pastor and they were looking for a senior or lead pastor. He was a heavy set man with a beard and wore just a black shirt, black pants and a red tie. He didn't wear a sports coat, so I was surprised he was dressed so casually. Not that dress is important but I guess as the leader of this church I expected the leader to look a step above the others, but its not the most important thing.
There was a lady sitting behind us, when it turned 12pm she said out loud, its 12pm and I'm hungry. I'm out of here, I'm going to get lunch. She got up and left and I looked at my wife and we thought, well this service is getting really long and the sermon hasn't even started yet.
The associate pastor asked everyone to stand up and greet one another, but not many people really greeted us. This invitation he gave the congregation seemed to resent. As if they didn't want to do this or hated doing it. I asked my wife, do you think they don't like each other at this church and just tolerate each other for the sake of worship? Well, running out of space to write. This church did not seem loving to visitors or care about them but seem semi-caring about themselves only. We won't be back, our...
Read moreSuch a nice church that in recent months hasn't been doing so great. The church is very friendly and has probably the best acoustics out of all the SDA churches in Colorado, but because of the changes in personnel, there have been people that moved out of the church. I continue to visit because the church is so welcoming and you can feel the love here.
(Update) They have revised their annual schedule to include special events multiple times every month, so stop by and chances are you'll encounter one of the many special...
Read moreThere are a lot of pretty women here, not that i went just for the women but they are noticeable. During the service they play this annoying organ i hate it with all of me. The guy that plays it holds a key for so long that i had to actually plug my ears not to be disrespectful but because it was hurting my ears. Coming in you dont feel as welcomed. Its almost as if you have to initiate conversations in order to be seen. I...
