Years ago animal control came to my neighbor's house took two of their dogs out of a pen in the backyard they left a card at the door and when the homeowners came they said $300 a dog to get your dogs back. They didn't speak English very well at that time I told them to fight it they wouldn't they didn't want no trouble they didn't have the $300 so they couldn't get their dogs back I told them to call and ask why? When they call the number on the card to ask why they were told the dog bit the mailman. My family are good friends with the mailman so I asked the mailman if he was okay. He informed me he was not bitten nor was a substitute mailman bitten he also informed me if he was bitten by a dog animal control would not get $300 of dog to return the dog he would be injured and there would be a lawsuit and an amount would be decided by a judge.
I have had to deal with animal control myself now I love my neighbors they're amazing but I blame them for not fighting the Injustice because now they think they're some type of gang in my neighborhood they are currently trying to stop me from following my doctor's orders for a service animal and one particular publicly requested my medical records which is against HIPAA laws however he's informed me that animal control is over state and federal laws.
They take advantage of my neighborhood because there are a lot of immigrants here and it's in an impoverished area in Detroit so they bully us and do whatever they want. He was at my house for 5 days straight I had to call animal control and tell them if they did not get him off of my property I would charge him rent and I would press stocking charges against him. I'm not sure what to do
I have a long history of caring for animals there are some national organizations for animal welfare that I have been working with for most of my life since I was a kid. I have sheltered many animals cats and dogs for different non-profit organizations. They have decided to just throw everything at me and see what sticks. They are able to operate outside of the law because somehow I haven't even had a court date yet but I have a warrant for failure to vaccinate my dogs when my dogs are vaccinated. This warrant has caused me to lose my job.
There are staff members who are aware of the corruption that goes on at animal control they are all about control they have no care or concern for the people or the animals in the city of Detroit you can Google them and see how many times nonprofit organizations have gone against them how many times their own staff members have left because of the cruelty they do to animals yet they come to my house when I have dogs that are 18 and 20 years old been to vets faithfully and my dogs have insurance even if I don't have insurance my dogs do. My dogs have had insurance for years once they first came out with it.
It's sad that they can come and say your dogs don't have shots when your vet says your dogs do have shots. It said that they can then say whatever they want about you even though it's not true and there's nothing you can do about it how they put a warrant for failure to vaccinate on me before I even went to court because I still haven't gone to court yet it's very interesting. How they can just look at my dogs and tell if they have a vaccination or not very interesting. How they can demand my medical records when I should be protected by HIPAA laws very interesting.
How the mayor and the political parties can let them run like this very interesting. I believe in God and we will get trials and tests. I just think it's disgusting how they treat animals I think it's disgusting that they blame the people of Detroit who are mostly good people trying their best to raise their families and feed their children. I took in my two nieces their mother died due to covid and one is down syndrome and one is autistic I have one full time and I have one part time. They were very traumatized by this one particular animal control. I have lived in other cities and I have worked with...
Read moreMyself, significant other and my 5 year old daughter came here to adopt an emancipated dog. We fell in love with another puppy and wanted to take both. We live in a three level over 3000 square foot home. We could easily separate the dogs for up to a few weeks for acclimating. I was told by the front desk staff I couldn't take both but if the rescue I worked with in the past authorized us to pull the other one for them we could take both. The rescue authorized and we were told to go get a cage to transport one of the dogs in. So my significant other left to get the cage and I stayed. The front desk staff even helped me call to places to check for cages! We then were told by Dana Eldred at DACC that the rescue no longer wanted to pull the dog. Which was not the case, I was texting with the owner of the rescue who stated Dana was clearly not interested in saving dogs. She came in the room and stated if the rescue said I could pull then we would be having a different conversation. I said ok ill have the rescue reach back out. Dana then changed what she was saying and said regardless I wasn't taking two dogs. I told Dana ok, ill have one of the dogs go to my father's for a foster. Dana proceeded to tell me no, I wasnt taking both and that she didnt trust me. Shelter staff was shocked at her engagement with me and how she treated me in front of my 5 year old. I'm unsure why someone like Dana is working at a place that supposedly is supposed to help dogs. Her heart clearly isn't in the right place for these animals it's pathetic! She should never be able to work with animals. We left and my 5 year old daughter was crying.
This place is overran with dogs. They said they get 15 to 20 dogs a day but yet they refuse to allow two to go at once. Let alone...
Read moreAdopted my girl Honey (formally Coy) from DACC. My review is really of the volunteers "Friends of Detroit animal care and control" this team is seperate from actual animal control and volunteer run. DACC pulls the animals off the streets and holds them. The volunteers take these cats and dogs and trys to get rescue groups to take them or get them adopted or fostered out ASAP. You have to know going in this is not a traditional rescue. These volunteers are trying to save dogs lives. Dogs that would otherwise be put down. DACC does not have the means to keep dogs and definitely so they need to find homes quickly.
The volunteers do the best they can with very limited information in a very short time span. When you're getting a dog from them they know very little about the dogs , unless they've been in Foster care. Go in knowing that you're going to have to do a fair amount of work to make your dog of choice comfortable and safe in your home. They can't dog/cat test prior to adoption. Your taking a chance there. 3 weeks in and we still haven't introduced Honey to the 3 resident cats. Taking our introductions nice and slow for everyone's safety. Some dogs may have heartworm. Friends of DACC provide you with meds and cover the cost of treatment. They sent us home with a packet of info on training, harnessing, slow intros , a leash, a harness, heartworm prevention and flea prevention. She was also spayed and...
