Farmer John Food Center — Local services in Detroit

I won’t do my major grocery shopping here and will only purchase from here if I’m in a bind and need 1 or 2 items super quick (with the exception of meat/fruits; won’t buy). Sadly, this place is your average neighborhood grocery store. Just like the majority of them, their items are overpriced (which I believe are for certain reasons, but I won’t elaborate). None of the employees that I’ve ever encountered are friendly. They do offer fax/copy services for a fee, and Amazon just installed one of their lockers here a few weeks ago which is convenient if you need it. Also, don’t expect to be able to take your shopping cart to your car if you need to, as they have some type of large metal gates around the entrance preventing you from doing so. They also have a problem with people hanging out in front of the entrance asking for random stuff, so plan on possibly getting approached. This place is OK, but...

This market is located in a poor area of Detroit but there is no excuse for selling expired food. This practice seems common with these types of markets operated by those of mid eastern descent. Not sure if they are Arabs or Armenian. Noticed that they will wipe off the expiration dates from some food items. I've actually purchased peanuts that had been expired by 10 months. Would not chance it with any type of perishable items like meat in particular. They like to place items on sale with already expired dates.....how blatant is that.!? Noticed mice or rat droppings in some isles. These type of markets take advantage of poor neighborhoods selling over priced and expired food. Its a good store but they have beggars that will follow you through the store begging you to buy them items that they can trade for drugs. I was there yesterday and this young dude who claimed to be homeless followed me and my family through the store asking us to buy him expensive expensive items. We were so uncomfortable and felt unsafe. I was told at the register that this man does this everyday to many people. Playing on this homeless theme saying he can only get microwave items etc. They need to get security in the store because this kind of stuff should not happen to...
