We had the most incredible experience with Captain Jay at Everglades Airboat Tours! From the moment we boarded the airboat, Jay's enthusiasm and knowledge about the Everglades were evident. Captain Jay didn't just give us a tour; he provided an educational journey through this unique ecosystem. He shared fascinating stories about the wildlife, explaining how alligators thrive in the Everglades and pointing out the various species of birds that call this place home. His detailed explanations about the mangroves and their role in the environment were both informative and engaging, making our ride not just a thrill but a learning experience. Jay's driving skills were top-notch; he navigated through the narrow waterways with such precision that we felt both safe and exhilarated. We saw so many alligators up close - some basking in the sun, others gliding silently through the water, but the real treat was meeting an alligator Jay has known for 12 years. He introduced us to this majestic creature, sharing anecdotes about its behavior over the years, which added a personal touch to our adventure. Moreover, Jay's humor and warmth made the trip even more enjoyable. He was attentive to our questions, ensuring we learned something new at every turn. The experience was personalized, making us feel like we were on a private tour through the heart of the Everglades. The highlight was when Jay explained the history of the Everglades, from its natural formation to the conservation efforts today. It was like having a moving classroom on water, with the most stunning natural backdrop. Overall, if you're looking for an airboat tour that combines adventure with education, Jay is your man. His passion for the Everglades is contagious, and his expertise turned our trip into one of the highlights of our vacation. We're already planning to come back and will definitely request Captain Jay for our next Everglades adventure. Highly, highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was a purely delightful tour with a knowledgeable captain, Jay. He took us out first for a quick but thorough science/ecology orientation of the glades. Then using his expertise based on years of experience, he sought out locations that might harbor wildlife. He found gators and nesting birds in good numbers. Remember, this is in a natural environment and no guarantees are promised. Yet we saw a great many and learned about their habitat. Jay had the ability to mimic sounds that lured some big reptiles toward the boat, but did not invite them inside. He also introduced us to the flora of the everglades finding hidden treasures in the most obscure patches of sawgrass. In the end, we returned to shore with a high speed sprint. So he gave us the complete experience, ecology, flora, fauna and a little thrill ride to cap the perfect day.
Side note: This tour was not burdened with sideshow distractions. There was no man putting his head in a gators mouth, no petting zoo, no souvenir stand/snack bar and no stopovers at cheap tourist traps that some other tours use to appear more attractive. This was an honest ride and provided the best experience possible.
Side note 2: Jay was born and raised in the area. He was connected to the wildlife and the human residents who were part of the Everglades. His cultural knowledge supported his guide experience and we were able to chat with him after the tour to gain greater insight as to how he seamlessly used his own upbringing to make the tour very meaningful. I am sure the other captains were very capable, but our tour with Captain Jay was one of the best and most worthwhile we had in...

Daniel was our guide and he was friendly knowledgeable and showed intense interest about the area. Ear protection was provided, but as we traveled to four or five different unique places, we were able to takeoff our earphones and view and discuss the plant and animal life we saw.
We saw female alligators and male alligators and Daniel knew which ones were female which ones were male, and even how long they were by just looking at their eyes and the tip of their nose. He was clearly well read and taught as details about the cat tails- how parts could be eaten and had more protein than beef and how the inside could be used as a gauze with a light anabiotic for wounds. We visited a woody hammock to experience biodiversity, including a special treat of male and female, purple gallinules and three or four fledgling birds as well as a large turtle.
My 13-year-old son and I immensely enjoyed that one hour tour and really wish that we had gone for two hours instead. It was a major highlight of our trip.
Definitely allow time for traffic when we looked in the evening it said 30 minutes, but when we left in the morning the time it changed to an hour due to traffic. Also go to the restroom before you go. water was...
