This is a long post but it's important: I unfortunately had a terrible experience at this salon yesterday. Now I'm not one to typically write reviews but I feel like it's my duty to warn others about the stylist I encountered yesterday. I have been here before and had an amazing cute, natural, affordable baylage by Amy the owner on a recommend from my friend. Amy was fantastic so I was excited to come back in. She was unavailable, but needing some hair maintenance badly I made an appointment with another salon member anyway.
I came in (on my first day off in 6 weeks...) to do a touch up and trim from Kristie. I couldn't have possibly imagined how poorly this went. She had her teenage daughter in the salon with her sitting in the chair next to me that she would order her around to get her supplies as her personal assistant. Completely unprofessional. When I told her that I wanted more neutral baylage highlights to blend with my current color and a 1" trim with long layers she didn't ask to clarify so I had assumed she knew what I was requesting.
While applying color she teased my hair (ok never seen that technique before... ) and threaded my hair for a tight weave highlight starting 3" from the root. Then after the color had processed she opened my foil back up to apply more bleach. When she washed my hair she sat down and didn't rinse one side of my head so I requested that the other side of my head be washed. Response "it's just conditioner." She took me back to the chair to apply toner (never had that happen before) she left the toner on for a very long time. She then brushed my hair wet and tore the knots out. Ouch. Then she washed me again... When she dried me I could see that my hair was orange. I had chunky streaks of bronze. I said that I was concerned asked if she could add color to blend it. "That's what I was planning on doing." She applied a brown shade which she combed in (another technique I've never seen before). Flecks of the dye landed on my new top and permanently stained it while she was combing. Then she washed me again for the third time. She snagged my cartilage piercing so hard it started bleeding. My hair was so damaged I could hear it squeaking in my ears in the sink. And when drying me again, she pulled my ear so hard my earring flew 10ft across the floor. Another nonchalant comment while half laughing "Man, I'm just destroying you." Once I was dry, I literally could not have left any faster. I asked her to skip the styling and just ring me up. My Saturday was ruined. I was totally pissed and mortified.
The outcome even after her attempt at a redo: many more broken ends and fly-aways from her brushing my hair wet, orange chunks of highlight, and my ends are toned to the point that they are gray. The color of the left and right sides don't match and after I came home I had to trim 3 uneven spots.
Mistakes happen. People have good and bad days. I totally understand that. But I have little tolerance for people who can't take responsibility for their mistakes. Kristie Patten did not know what she was doing, she didn't stop to clarify, and was intolerant of feedback.
Kristie is filling in for several of Amy's regulars next week. Please beware. I am terrified to go to work tomorrow for fear of looking like a joke. I seriously am planning on putting my hair up for 4 straight weeks until my hair recovers a little bit and then chop off the bottom 5" to start all over again. This was the worst hair color I have had (and that includes the one time I went to a beauty school for an overall auburn with vanilla highlights). I have an appointment again with Amy but I'm...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible experience. I went in for the first time, really excited about the All-Over Color and Cut I scheduled with Marlee (thinking it would be around $70-$90, not unreasonable).
The atmosphere was great--cute decor, awesome music, fun products--but as soon as I sat in the chair and told Marlee what I wanted, she started changing the game.
I told her I wanted all-over honey-ish, golden-ish blonde and she basically said that wasn't possible, and decided to go with bayalage. I have done bayalage/ombre in the past, and I'm not a fan of it. But I also didn't know how to say it, since she didn't really stop to ask how I felt about it. She was very forceful about what SHE wanted my hair to be like. So she does the bayalage and layers it with a copper toner, making my hair look not even REMOTELY blonde. It looks great, but it's not even close to what I asked for.
While she's blowdrying my hair, this guy comes in with a shipment of shampoo and conditioner or something, and she's too busy talking to him to blowdry my hair. And then she asks how I feel about the color. I say I'm not a huge fan, and that it looks like I've already been growing out the color for four weeks. She insists that it blends beautifully, and says that if I want to add highlights to even out the roots, it will be double the price. And then the guy, who is still standing there, makes some snarky comment about how if I got all-over color then there would be regrowth anyway.
So we get to the cut, and she does basically what I ask for--mainly just a trim, some blunt texturizing around the ends. But then she goes through and starts texturizing the rest of my hair, and about half way through my head she's like "Oh, is it alright if I add some texture?" Very unprofessional.
I was under the impression that I would be paying for an all-over color with the price of a trim (not even a real cut) included, but instead I got charged $90 for bayalage that I didn't want, and an additional $35 for a mediocre cut. I usually tip hair stylists very well, but I very purposefully didn't tip a single cent.
The atmosphere was so promising, and I had heard good things from some friends, but overall it was horribly upsetting. I will never go to this salon again, and I'm a hair breadth away from just shaving my entire head so I don't have to have this hair that I don't like.
TL;DR I got a lovely hair color from Marlee at the Boutique Salon, but it wasn't even vaguely close to what I asked for or wanted, and I got charged an outrageous...
Read moreI highly recommend it to people looking for a professional stylist. I got a hair makeover from Tamara and it was the best haircut I've had in a long time. I came in with very long, loosely curled hair that was in need of some major work. It has a relaxing atmosphere and welcoming environment that put me at ease right away. The receptionist was nice, and the price for all of the services I received was great. Tamara did a fantastic job with my highlights, showcasing her impressive skills. The overall environment was conducive to healthy hair and great conversation. I left the salon feeling confident with my new look, thanks to the fantastic job done on my...
