This was our first visit to this lovely spot of paradise. My spouse loves the intensity of Indian food but requires an incredibly mild spice level. When asked if we wanted any recommendations, I mentioned to the server that my spouse may need a suggestion that was mild in spice.
As he read back our order with a giant grin on his face, the server expressed the need for hers to be extra spicy. We laughed, he laughed, and he assured us it would be mild.
Our food came out in 10ish minutes (there weren't many other tables in the restaurant, maybe 3, and no to go orders coming in). I ordered the Andhra Chicken Curry (medium spice) and a Mango Lassi. She ordered the Boneless chicken Biriyani, mild, and two garlic naan, one for each of us.
There have been many times when I've ordered medium or hot spicy food, and it comes out mild. This was not one of those times. It was definitely hot. I would say that for most people in Utah it was on fire. The spice level was a bonafide medium heat, chuck full of flavor, had intense slow burning heat, and I loved every bite of it. The lassi had great flavor and a perfect consistency. The garlic naan was just as good as anywhere else we've had great naan.
My spouse spooned up some of her chicken biryani and began to eat. After the first bite, she indicated that it had great flavor. As she moved her fork filled with rice and chicken for her second bite, I saw something I hadn't seen previously. Steam began billowing out of her ears. As her face began to turn fire engine red, she proclaimed how hot her dish was. It appeared to me that in all of our 18 years eating together, she hadn't experienced food this spicy. It took two tastes, but I tasted her meal and knew it was definitely beyond her acceptable level of mild.
While she ran to the bathroom to blow her nose, (knowing she wouldn't want to eat more of the biyrani), I asked for a Butter Chicken, super extra mild. To help with the burn the server brought another Mango Lassi. We were advised that we could have asked for zero spice. The Butter Chicken came out and while it was less spicy than the biyrani, it still had a little kick (but it was manageable for her).
When we eat certain ethnic foods I know there is a chance we'll be ordering more than 2 meals. That was the case today. So be advised, this restaurant is true to its word on spice level. Mild does have a spice level. If ketchup is too spicy for you, order your food here to not be spicy.
We had great service and loved the food. I highly recommend enjoying a meal here on at least one occasion. I hope to be back...
Read moreUpdate: The day after I posted my original review, the owner gave me a call and apologized to me. That alone made me appreciative. It isn't often that businesses value reviews in that way. I went back in tonight and the server was amazing. She made great recommendations, and I really enjoyed the food. I got some dosa, naan, gongura goat biryani, and some curry. If you're into tangy and spicy, I would definitely recommend the gongura. I've never tried anything like it, it's amazing! I had also never eaten dosa before. I think it's my new favorite appetizer! It's a large crepe with fillings, served with 4 different kinds of sauces. I think mine had onions and potatoes. What a great recommendation! There are so many selections to choose from, I will have to go back and try some other dishes. Kudos to the owner and servers!!
I ordered takout. I was super excited to try this place, I used to really enjoy the previous establishment (Pastries n Chaat). When I called in, I had a really hard time hearing the person on the phone. It was karaoke night, so I kept on having to ask her what she said. It was my first time ordering, so I was pretty unfamiliar with the menu. The menu is quite large, so I wanted to try some new items, so I asked about a few of them.
I was nearby, so I decided to go there and wait. My order wasn't ready, so I sat in the lobby. There were a few costumers that went in, and she was super nice and friendly to them. By the time my order was finished, I realized how much she absolutely couldn't stand me, lol. I paid and repeatedly smiled and thanked her and she couldn't be bothered to even look in my direction. I tried to hand her the bill after I signed and tipped her and she completely ignored me, while also looking pissed. No one else was around. The difference between how she treated me and the other patrons was night and day. Guess I really made her mad by being unable to hear her and asking questions about the menu.
My favorite dish was the baby corn manchurian, I ordered it hot and it was so full of flavor and had a nice kick. I also ordered the ghee roasted goat biryani, garlic naan, and butter naan. I ordered extra spicy for the biryani, and imma be honest. It wasn't spicy at all, the baby corn appetizer was spicier. It was also kinda bland. It was much better after hitting it with salt. I wanted to try some of the other menu items, but I probably won't be back. I don't want to be afraid to ask about the menu items, or just being treated that way after after having had a 2 minute conversation over...
Read moreFirst thing we noticed was place was not clean- carpet was dirty and seat offered to us was torn. Place was poorly lit and dark. overall ambience was not good(sellotaped decor and posters on the bar just made it worse). My wife suggested leaving, but I thought food might be good. Once we ordered, we heard some sort of fight/argument going on inside the kitchen. We understand the language.Very unpleasant when you’re with wife and kids on a weekend.
We ordered - Vijaywada Dum Biryani , which was served cold, when asked it was taken back and brought back microwaved. It didn’t taste like any Vijaywada Dum biryani we ate ever. It was more like Hyderabadi Dum Biryani with just breaded chicken inside. Other one we ordered was weekend special - Chitti Royalu(Tiny Shrimp) Pulao : If you are from Andhra you know how it would look and taste like. I was excited for this one. What we got was just Shrimp curry on Masala rice with normal sized shrimp. Two postives were the qantity and spice level. Overall not a good experience. There are better places in town for Indian food for better taste, authenticity, quality & ambience.
Update: I added more details and also I earlier mentioned other restaurants which were more authentic and are definitely better but looks like owners took that as an excuse to ignore the rest of the points all together and painted as if I have some vested interests, Spite and jealousy(for what?). I am removing names of other restaurants so they can’t make that excuse. I just visited the restaurant with family but it was not good. Sorry! If you can’t take honest feedback and concentrate on how to improve the restaurant and instead giving unrelated B.S. to customers on how to be satisfied & happy 🙂. If you’re a Biryani place you better be good at it and I am from the same place and know how Biryani’s taste. By all means experience the restaurant yourself and don’t take my word.
