Chef David Catering - the food and the staff - is OUTSTANDING! I'm writing a five-star review long-distance from Washington, DC, as Chef David and his assistant Lisa went above and beyond to make Mother's Day special for an extended family of 12. One week before Mother's Day, the beloved mother of my best friend died very unexpectedly at home in the Atlanta region. With Mother's Day on the horizon, the only way that my friends and I here in DC felt that we could bring some joy to the family while celebrating their mother was through food... and we decided to cater a meal for everyone on Mother's Day.
I did some research, and picked up the phone and called Chef David Catering. A lovely woman named Lisa answered the phone. I took that as a good sign, as my name is Lisa as well. I explained the situation, and asked if they would be able to provide a meal for 12? She said that the typical minimum party order was 25 people, but that Chef David would make an exception based on this particular circumstance. I also was very well aware of how hard it is to source certain ingredients during this COVID-19 pandemic, so I told Lisa that I didn't even have a menu in mind, but could she please speak with Chef David to see what he'd be willing and able to prepare?
The next day, Lisa sent me a menu of: Pan Seared Chicken with Gravy Baked Salmon in Lemon Dill Sauce Mixed Vegetables Wild Rice with Cranberries and Almonds Mixed Green Salad served with Ranch and Vinaigrette Dressings Rolls and Butter Strawberry Shortcake
The menu sounded amazing, and I approved it immediately. This afternoon (Mother's Day), Lisa called me to say that Chef David was already on his way to the family's house, and gave me details about the beautiful Strawberry Shortcake cake to share with the family.
Chef David arrived at the exact time he promised, and told the family that he'd even made an extra pan of mashed potatoes for everyone to enjoy.
A couple of hours later, I heard from my friend, expressing her sincere thanks for the DELICIOUS MEAL, that was above and beyond what her family had expected. It was enjoyed by everyone. Particular favorites were the Baked Salmon and the Wild Rice. There were still plenty of leftovers for them to enjoy over the coming days... but that the lovely cake was devoured by all!

The food was spectacular and I'll talk more about that later in the review, but I would be remiss if I did not share how amazing Chef David and his team are as people.
Lisa, the teammate that handles a lot of logistics and answers most phone calls, was always responsive to my many many questions. Their whole team makes you feel like family and is very attentive. They genuinely care about you and your event. We had a scheduling issue come up and had to reschedule our wedding with only two months notice. Chef David and his team practically moved heaven and earth to remain our caterer for the new date. They already had three other weddings scheduled for that date and none of them were small events. Our wedding alone was 150 people and I know the other events had several hundred people. It amazes me that they executed our event and food perfectly while doing the same for three other large parties on the same day. They are truly talented at what they do.
The food was spectacular. We had the jerk chicken, bourbon glazed pork chops, fettuccine, rice, salad, and rolls. Everyone went out of their way to tell us how amazing the food was, and people are still talking about it now two weeks later. That speaks volumes, because we all know wedding food can be hit or miss depending on the cater. I know that we went with the best with Chef David.
We also got our wedding cake from them - we did half baileys and half red velvet and it was 100% delicious.
Also, Chef David has extremely competitive pricing for the food and services they provide. You could easily pay three times as much for food that is half as good if you go with another caterer.    Read moreThis review is a little late in coming, but that is no reflection on the excellence of Chef David's Catering. He catered my daughter's wedding that was originally supposed to happen on 1/10/25 (Yes, the day Snowstorm Cora showed up in Atlanta!). The entire wedding had to be moved to the following day because people had flown in from out-of town to be there. Chef David was so kind and understanding and assured me he would be there with all his crew. The one request my daughter had was to have a plated dinner at her reception. They picked the main courses and appetizers and we entrusted Chef David to make the Wedding cake and Groom's cake too. Every dish he created was outstanding! From the Deviled Eggs (my husband said they were the best he has ever had - just the right amount of mustard) to the chicken and the Melt-in-your mouth Filet. I must have had at least 20 people from the groom's side seek me out to tell me how excellent the food was, and this was a small wedding! Since we lost some guests due to the snow storm, we did have food left over. My guests did not let it sit there! Many asked to take the food home. I did take the Filets, since they were so outstanding. One of my friends loaded them, and some of the other food in her car for me. They brought the food to my house the next day, but were sure to bring plenty of containers to take some home as payment. The cakes (Red Velvet and Chocolate Mousse) were masterpieces. The cakes were light and fluffy and not too sweet with excellent flavor. The best part is that, IMO, the food was extremely reasonable. It was served with elegance and class. I was extremely proud of how our small wedding (35 guests +/- after losing some to the snowstorm) turned out. My daughter and SIL were thrilled with everything.
