Traveled to downtown Duluth yesterday with my bf and friend as we tried a few spots with The Empanada House being one of them. Who can resist a empanada though? So I just knew it was going to be the good!
The place is located on the corner diagonal from Maple Biscuit Street Company where it shares it brick and mortar with another restaurant, The Sweet Octopus. Empanada House is located upstairs.
When we arrived it was very chill and quiet and smelled delicious. We each tried 2 empanadas a piece and my boyfriend added on a dessert empanada as well.
We ordered:
The Pulled Pork The Hawaiian The Tradional Beef The Bulgogi The Pepperoni Pecan Pie
We had great customer service and they were freshly made to order! What’s really cool is each empanadas was branded with its flavor type on the empanada so we could easily distinguish which one was which.
As far as flavor they were all really good. The tradional beef was unique as it had chopped boiled eggs, raisins, olives, spice and beef. Although it was good, I probably wouldn’t order it again because the flavor profile wouldn’t be something I would be drawn to.
Pricing is very affordable which is a plus especially how the economy is. I would come back and try other flavors and definitely use it as a spot to eat before I go out for a night of...
Read moreAbsolutely stellar. Made the trek from Decatur to Duluth to grab these empanadas and it absolutely lived up to the 4.9 star hype. My order was ready when I arrived and curbside pickup was a breeze.
The empanadas themselves are wonderful and all packed a bunch of flavor. I got the beef, pork, and chicken as well as a fig and mascarpone and banana and Nutella for dessert. Uber Eats had a $8 off $20 special, so for 3 huge and 2 medium empanadas, $17 felt like a great deal. The beef empanada was very good, but it was the bbq pork that was the star for me. The meat itself had incredible flavor without being slathered in sauce and it maintained its juciness even after I heated it up in the oven. The chicken empanada is in my fridge as 2 huge empanadas left me full with just a bit of room to spare for dessert. While I didn't care for the fig and mascarpone, if you like figs, this seems like a winner as they actually put a fig in the empanada. I thought the ratio of fig:mascarpone was off (too much fig), but the banana and Nutella more than made up for it. I probably could have eaten 4 of them--buttery crust, banana and Nutella are an absolute classic pairing, and just the right amount of each.
I would not hesitate to return--a complete...
Read moreThe best thing about this place was that sakerita I had. I found this place scrolling through yelp a while ago so I was so excited to try the empanadas. Honestly, I should’ve known better. You HAVE to go with your gut feeling in some situations 😂. The place smelled burnt before we even walked up the stairs so I should’ve known right then. I think they had their oven on too high because the outside was crispy but some of the inside was doughy. The flavor of the meat was subpar as well. It lacked in taste severely. Maybe it was just a bad day for them, who knows. The best one with the most flavor and tender meat was the pork empanada. I tried pulled pork, goulash, beef, and bulgogi. I was so disappointed in the bulgogi one. I love Korean food so I was excited to taste that one but it was tough and the flavor was not bulgogi at all. Although I was dissatisfied with the empanadas, I’d still go back for a drink or bubble tea. Also, the picture of the empanadas are very misleading 😂. One of the main reasons I was excited to come was because I thought they were huge but they’re about the size of your...
