A very big thanks to Jamie for his patience and guidance throughout the entire course (CDL class A.) I recommend the school to all new drivers including those with some and with no experience at all.
The instructor, Jamie, is the owner of the school (presumably.) He's very pleasant, easy going, and most importantly very experienced and competent. Julia, the administrative assistant is also very pleasant and professional, responds quickly and answers all questions. You should be aware that one-on-one means 1on1 with the truck, not 1on1 with the instructor; the instructor is available on premises whenever you need him (this I believe is common practice with all the CDL schools, otherwise the schools would be extremely costly.) There's only so much space for few students to be on the yard at the same time practicing, so the instructor is available almost immediately - no worries there.
The skills learning is mostly practicing reversing the truck, and little bit of going out on the road - this will obviously depend on student's skill level; if student needs more practice driving forward, they'll practice more driving; otherwise, it's really practicing reversing the truck, and parking it between the cones (this is the part that requires most practice by far; the experienced drivers make it look easy, it is not easy when you're starting.)
While I cannot compare this school to others, having only been to this one school for training, I noticed on the exam day at the DMV, that some students from the other very popular schools in NJ were no where near as prepared to take the road exam. SOME instructors of the bigger truck driving schools will take their students out on the road test knowing they're not ready and are unlikely to pass (just an observation, and does not apply to everyone, but definitely true.) Even though the learning/practicing process can be very frustrating when you try and try and see no progress, the experience learned is useful on the road test. Jamie is honest with his assessment of the student's skills and abilities, and he promises to take the student to the road test when he feels the student is ready. I did take few extra hours prior to going to road exam, until I felt confident to pass it in one shot.
The school offers trucks with manual and automatic transmissions. Not all trucks drive the same so you get to experience a little variety, and how different trucks behave; however, the final parking results might not be consistent. I highly recommend for new students to study the pre trip inspection at home daily and regularly, specially the cab-check and air break test to the point you know it by heart inside out, so you don't have to spend too much time learning that on the yard when you can use that time to practice reversing.
Overall, I'm very happy with the school and the instructor, and would recommend the...
Read moreJR Driving school is the best! Exceptional customer service they truly care about their students. That's what exactly what you get when you sign up with Jr Driving school. Where do.o start. Julia from the office from the first time I spoke to her. She explained to me in great detail the whole process and steps that I needed to do in order to obtain my Cdl. I explained that I was relocating to another state and that I had minimal time left and wanted to know if I would make it. She spoke to Jamie who is the man and she called back and said yes. So I signed up and gave her my schedule and shortly after Jamie called me to start classes. Now the next exciting thing is this school is one on one so you're learning immediately once you're behind the wheel. Also how flexible and accommodating there hours are. I was still able to attend classes while still working my full-time job. Jamie was very clear on what he expected from me and what I needed to do in order to pass my cdl road test. His honesty, straightforwardness, knowledge and patience to teach and his personality is a gift. JR Driving school has a great team of people working together to help there students. Jonathan is also a favorite he tells you like it is and doesn't sugar coat it. 9n the day of the road test Jamie met us there at 7am. I was wondering why was we there an hour before we they opened. He wanted to go over the road test course and the dos and don't . So that we weren't flustered. One very very important detail was how to drive on the street leaving the dmv for the road test part. There was a curved road he told us what to do to make out with out touching or hitting the curb. Later that day while we all watched and waited another student from another school hit that same curb and failed. The whole point is Jamie genuinely cares about his students passing and me watching that was eye opening. JULIA, JAMIE, JONATHAN thank you guys again for helping me succeed in passing my cdl road test. I will never forget you...
Read moreWriting this review and the 5 start do not even do this CDL school any Justice, they deserve way more..I have a day job and thought it was impossible to combine work and CDL school.. there a lot of fancy schools out there with all fancy trucks but as a student what you want to look for is the school that value your time and knowledge over money. This other schools just want to take every penny you have as much as they can but JR driving school wants to train you to be the best because you represent them after school. As a student you would never find a better school with a trainer that enjoys teaching you the knowledge and skills you need to pull that huge truck. I was fortunate to be paired with JAMIE one of the trainers and I had never even sat on a truck a day in my life but Jamie trained me so well and understood my situation with my day job and was very flexible with my schedule. He understood I was a first time driver and treated me as such with details so I understood exactly what I needed to know..other schools promises one on one but no school promises to do whatever it takes to get you the knowledge and skills you need and JR driving school not only promises but delivers both on each student.. I...
