Overall very disappointed. I have wanted to do kickboxing for a while. So last summer I saw this particular Tiger Shulmann move closer to my house so I thought it was a sign. I knew they didn't display prices or anything on their website so I tried not to think about why. I decided to go in there to sign up for a class. I sat down with one of the managers and she schedules me for an orientation and the free class. I ask how much it is and still no real answer (the answer she gave was "oh it works out to be about $20 a class. And you will sit down with the sensei afterward to pick out the payment plan you like"). At this point I'm like payment plan? How much is it? So I came back the next week to start my kickboxing class, finally. Yay! I get started on some paperwork and that was the beginning of the end. On the paperwork there is a question that asks you how many days a week are you willing to train? The minimum on there as a choice was 2. Well, I knew with 3 kids, a business, and a full time job I would not be able to do that.Well, the manager did not explain this to me when I was there just one week before. So I went up to her and asked. She stated it's the minimum requirement for training. I explained to her that if I was told this from the start I would have said I wasn't able to do 2 days a week because of my schedule and I wouldn't have wasted her time. She then repeated the minimum requirement to me as if I didn't hear her the first time. Well, long story short I just felt like something wasn't right. If you're not going to be truthful up front with people in the beginning as a business owner that to me is not being honest. I started easing my way towards the door by this point when I got a "what's your name?" from the sensei. I kindly told him my name and stated that I probably won't stay. I guess that wasn't what he wanted to hear. Now any decent person with any kind of customer service would have perhaps asked something like "why not?" I would have explained due to my schedule I am unable to commit to 2 days a week, upon which a kind reply would have been "I completely understand. However, since 2 days is needed as a minimum when your schedule does permit we would love to see you come back and visit us". What I got was completely the opposite. No sooner then I said to him that I wasn't staying his attitude flipped. He was COMPLETELY rude. The customer service was HORRIBLE after I said I was unable to do it. He mumbled something like "this is not the place for you". So I ended up walking out. I then read other online reviews about bad management and how sometimes people have gotten stuck in an expensive contract...so maybe I should see this as a blessing...
Read moreMy daughter has been attending Tiger Schulmannâs in North Brunswick for a few months now, and after giving them a fair chance, I feel itâs time to leave an honest review. As a parent who truly values discipline, growth, and respect in martial arts, Iâm extremely disappointed.
My daughter is active in several sports, and I wanted to expose her to different styles, including martial arts. Despite reading a few negative reviews about this specific location, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, I began noticing exactly what those reviews warned about.
First off, the environment is cold and unwelcoming. The senseis donât greet you, acknowledge you, or even offer a simple âgood morningâ or âgood afternoonâ when you walk in â and thatâs completely unacceptable, especially when parents are paying top dollar. Communication with parents is nonexistent, and frankly, the lack of courtesy is shocking.
The cleanliness of the facility is another major issue. The bathrooms are consistently dirty and have a strong, unpleasant odor â not something you want your child exposed to on a regular basis.
The final straw came when I informed the owner that my daughter would need to step back from training for medical reasons and to balance her commitments with other sports. Instead of showing understanding or professionalism, he responded with complete disrespect. He insulted my daughter, saying she doesnât know how to punch or kick, and even went as far as belittling the other martial arts school she attends. How can a sensei â someone meant to teach discipline and respect â insult another dojo and a young student? That blew my mind.
At that moment, I finally understood what the negative reviews were truly about. This school does not care about your childâs development or well-being â they only care about your wallet. The owner was more concerned with enforcing the contract and demanding two more months of payment than showing an ounce of empathy or professionalism.
Parents, please think twice before signing your kids up here. There are far better martial arts programs out there that truly care about the students and treat families with the respect they deserve. This experience was incredibly disappointing, and I would not recommend this...
Read moreFrom Bullied to BraveâTSMA East Brunswick Changed Our Lives âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ Let me tell you a little story. A few years ago, my 7-year-old son Brayden was being bullied so badly in school, he would cry every Sunday night and say, âMommy, I canât deal with the monster tomorrow.â (And no, unfortunately, he didnât mean a video game villain.) My heart broke. I wanted to wrap him in bubble wrap and homeschool him on a cloudâbut my husband had a better idea: Martial arts.
But not just any martial arts schoolâwe found TSMA East Brunswick, and nothing has been the same since (in the BEST way possible).
Brayden went in shy, scared, and unsure of himself. Now? Heâs a confident, respectful, strong young man who stands tallânot just on the mat, but in life. TSMA helped him find his voice. Itâs like watching Clark Kent realize heâs Supermanâbut with shin guards.
Our younger son Xander started at three years old (yes, THREE, in a gi!), and itâs been the best decision we couldâve made. Heâs strong, focused, and hilarious. Theyâve both developed skills that go way beyond punches and kicksâtheyâve learned discipline, respect, resilience, and how to walk into a room with confidence.
The instructors? Pure gold. Not only are they highly skilled, professional, and passionate, but they also see each child. They build real relationships with the kidsâand even better, they bring the same energy outside the dojo. Itâs not just martial arts; itâs mentorship. Itâs magic. Itâs like the Avengers opened a dojo and gave out black belts instead of shields.
And hereâs the plot twist: I signed up too. Yep, Iâve been training at TSMA for over a year now. Turns out, watching your kids grow into little warriors makes you want to step on the mat yourself. Itâs been therapy, exercise, and personal empowerment all rolled into one sweaty, satisfying package. I leave every class feeling stronger and prouderâplus, itâs way more fun than the gym.
TSMA East Brunswick isnât just a martial arts schoolâitâs a family. Itâs where my kids found their courage, and where I found mine too.
So if your child is struggling⌠or if youâre a parent who needs a little reminder of your own strength⌠stop scrolling and GO HERE. You wonât regret...
