This is the sub shop of my youth. That is both literal and figurative. Riddle & Martin is just like the sub shop from the imagination of anyone who grew up in Central New Jersey like I did.
That it to say that the menu is straightforward, stocked with a couple of dozen selections all prepared on the same sub rolls with the same toppings options. It is also like the figurative "sub shop" in that there are no dining amenities. In fact, there is no eat-in option. You walk into a tight, little storefront where customers who've received and paid for their orders squeeze past those still waiting for theirs to leave the establishment.
No amenities are needed, however. The quality of the sandwiches stands on its own. My personal favorites are the numbers 4 & 5; the Super Italian and the Special. These I of course prefer with the works: lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and oregano. Mayonnaise and mustard are also available if one is feeling saucy.
