Calico — Local services in East Hanover

DIASAPPOINTED -- I had done two rooms -- reupholstery, window treatments, pillows -- previously with Calico in East Hanover, and both were great successes. Three times was NOT the charm, however.

I JUST had a sofa and chair reupholstered and window treatments made for a total of 32 feet of windows. In delivering the reupholstered furniture, the delivery men banged into the doorways so badly that I had to repaint the wood work on two doorways and the chair leg suffered a sizable chunk chipped out of it. With the window treatments, the installers made a hole in the ceiling and tried -- unsuccessfully -- to patch it such that I now have to repaint the entire ceiling.

when I reported the damage to the chair leg, I was told that the company would repair it. But the same delivery people were coming back to pick up the chair and it would be two weeks in the shop. Since I did not want to repaint the woodwork again, I declined the repair had it done by a local furniture maker who did it in my home with no further damage to woodwork or the chair. As for the ceiling, I hate to even think what remedy Calico would provide after these two different vendors made such a mess. I note that the upholstery company is not the same as the one that did the work in the two earlier rooms.

So, I am done...

I was selling my house and had a problem: the large air conditioner air handler took up one wall of the upstairs room in my cape. After searching everywhere for a way to conceal it, I found Calico and went to them. I brought photos of the condition, and they sent their measurer/installer, David. He took extensive measurements (2 trips) and made a suggestion that instead of hanging with drapery hooks, they use velcro. This will enable them to be completely removed prior to maintenance, It took several months to fabricate the intricate design, but the result is outstanding! I hesitate to say "any store" can make window curtains, but I KNOW that very few could make this! Everyone in the store was completely helpful throughout the process; special thanks to Anna! I'm interior designer with Iron and Silk Design and I worked with Calico Corners East Hanover on numerous occasions. I'm very pleased with outcome every single time. The fabric selections is great and also they never made an issue if I would like to use my own fabric or hardware. I always feel as priority client and stuff is ready to help anytime. The window treatments are executed perfectly and always reflect my design as planned. There is no room for mistake if it comes down to my Clients and their satisfaction.
