Flaming Grill & Modern Buffet- East Hanover — Restaurant in East Hanover

I wouldn’t return to this establishment if you paid me. Do not bring your family there. Today, we go in around 4:30pm. Table for 2. We sit down, order our drinks, and make our way to the buffet for the first and final time. We start hearing a commotion. There was a guy with his wife and daughter and he was just acting unusual. So we got our food and went and sat down. Turns out that family was sitting only a few tables away from us. We take a bite of our food and the guy starts talking loudly again using extreme profanity. He proceeds to tell his wife to call his mother. They got on the phone with the mother and the guy is screaming for her to order him an Uber and send it there. He then says to his mother if an Uber doesn’t come soon he is going to use the gun he has on him when he gets home. Now, everyone hears this. Not a single person from the establishment did anything. By this point I looked at my husband and we just put out forks down and sat there for a few minutes trying to decide what we should do. I finally say to my husband let’s just leave. The guy is now walking around the buffet screaming to his wife and daughter yelling again extreme racial profanity which is whatever he was talking about his own race. They are yelling at the waitress because she tells them they don’t get to go boxes. The husband is walking around the buffet and back to the table still screaming at his wife and daughter. They are screaming at him. Not screaming at each other in anger just that’s the way they talk I suppose. Which would be fine if they were at home but they are in restaurant. So we wait till they get back to the table and my husband and I make our way to the register. The guy working the register says to me do you have your receipt? I said no I just want to pay and leave. So our waitress brings him the receipt and tells him we didn’t eat. He apologized up and down and I said you should have done something. He said I’m sorry I’ll take $10 off. I said that’s it? But I was about to argue I just wanted to pay and leave. So we literally spent $50 on absolutely nothing. The kicker is they continued to seat people around this family and everyone you can see was super uncomfortable. Whether or not he really had a gun on him? I don’t know. Welcome to town, Flaming Grill and Modern Buffet, the successor to Sakura Grill and before that Royal Buffet. Flaming Grill isn't just a new name to an old place, it's a refurbished restaurant under new ownership. Gone are the common complaints of its predecessor, such as paying before you eat, no tap water and forced covid surcharges.

The restaurant excels in its coverage of seafood. Included are dishes such as snow crab and lobster. The snow crab is served with a butter garlic sauce and is mixed with crawfish. The lobster is cut into small pieces and has a ginger garlic sauce. There's a fried crab that has tons of meat in its body and is easy to eat. Many types of fish are available for selection. The raw bar has oysters, clams, shrimp (not actually raw) and New Zealand oysters.

There's a good selection of the typical Chinese foods such as lo meins, egg rolls, spring rolls, etc. and for others there is pizza, spinach, short ribs, roast beef, etc.

The sushi bar has a lot of selections such as sashimi, nigiri, rolls, etc., though on the night I visited the selections were not kept replenished. I also missed having salmon as a component of any of the sushi.

Dessert consists of a multiple of cakes, fresh fruits (mango, melon, kiwi, etc.) and ice cream selections.

I was quite satisfied with the food. Flavor was good and fresh. Temperature was right and the food was replenished rapidly, even for the high demand, high priced items such as the crabs and lobster. The table service was good with quick attention to removing dirty dishes and replenishing your drink.

You'll notice the price is now higher than the previous restaurant. I personally would rather pay this higher price and have the great selection this restaurant has.

What would I like better? Personally I prefer my snow crab steamed and without a messy sauce. A choice of low sodium soy sauce would be nice. (The manager told me he'd offer this in the future). Some wet wipes at the table to clean up after handling the messy food would be welcome.

If there was an option for a 0 star I would, this is the most disgraceful place possible today 12/07/2022 at 16:30 I went to this establishment hoping for a wide variety of options to choose from and a great deal in price like there sister location in Manville NJ. But I received was disappointment and over charge at its best. Me and my partner had barely gotten through half of our plates (we both only got 1 plate each) and we were immediately turned off the food was dry and had no flavor. My fiance tried to take a bite out of his fish and it was over cooked and hard to cut, it was basically a hockey puck. I had the coconut shrimp which was left out to long and hard to chew and the fried chicken was flavorless and disgusting. I also had the steak that was over cooked and the teriyaki chicken was slimey. I will not be returning and I work at an establishment that tenders to the public of east hanover and I see hundreds of people every week and I talk to all of the customers about places I've eaten at in town and this place will have a horrible reputation, mark my words. I paid 58$ and some change for two plates barley eaten and 2 cups of soda barely sipped. This was not worth almost 60$. The atmosphere was also dreadful and boring. Who ever created the paint and design of this place did a terrible job. This does not match what a Chinese buffet enviorment is supposed to feel like. And lastly the waitress was very pushy on the check once the check was brought she lingered as if I was going to sign and tip immediately and I was not asked if I enjoyed the visit there or was checked up on through out my visit ere at all. This is a terrible over priced buffet and the townships citizens will know of this place in the worst possible way.
