So, I joined CrossFit Steam in early June because of a coach at this gym named Jon Mancini, who's an amazing coach among the other great coaches they have. I took some time off at the end of July for personal reasons but recently decided on 10/10/17 I would head back. I invited one of my best friends (Who's never done CrossFit, mainly does Body Building) to give it a try. I came in with the mindset of signing up and introducing my friend to the gym and the members, little did I know it was going to go south from there.
I walked into the gym and noticed the owner, Franco, sitting in his truck, figuring he was leaving I continued into the gym with my buddy. Excited and eager to see old faces, Franco came out of his truck just to talk to me. With excitement, I said hello but Franco immediately started questioning my random appearance. Questions like: "What are you doing here?" "Are you member again?" "Who's your friend?" "Why is he here?"
It was almost as if I was being investigated for wanting to come back and for bringing a referral. I informed Franco I would be rejoining the gym but I wanted to introduce and show the ways of CrossFit to my friend. Franco then began to insult me stating I wasn’t good enough to introduce my friend to CrossFit and I should let his coaches do their jobs. Meanwhile I’m there quiet trying to process what’s going on with my friend. He began to say we needed to pay and he was angry and just left.
Not for nothing, this is a premium Gym. When you come into a facility like this, you immediately know you’re going to spend $150 plus to be a part of it so I don’t understand why an owner would be upset to see a former member come back and to see he brought a guest with him. I wasn’t apart of this gym long enough to build a relationship with any of the coaches or owners so I don’t understand the animosity towards me. I was told he was having a bad day but even if he is; is that a way you treat your gym members?
I believe I gave Franco enough time to apologize even though his coaches did already, I feel as if I am no longer welcomed at this facility and will have to take my...
Read moreI have been going to CrossFit Steam for 2 years now and I must say, I would never go back to a regular gym again. The workouts are awesome and different everyday. I feel like the hardest part of going to the gym is figuring out what to do when you get there and how to use the machines. All of that is taken out of the equation at CrossFit Steam.
The coaches are extremely knowledgeable about the movements and passionate about the sport. I know I can always ask for their help and feel confident that they will guide me in the right direction if they notice my form is off - as safety is their utmost priority and bad form leads to injuries.
The atmosphere at the box is really welcoming. Everyone really pushes each other to do their best, whether that be cheering someone on as they finish their WOD or encouraging someone to PR -- or in my instance, giving me their tips to master rope climbs.
I thoroughly enjoy going to CrossFit Steam even on hot summer days (they have no AC) - it makes you...
