First-time Eastvale shop visitor 08.09.2024.
We first went to Cravings, expecting to find hot meal choices. None. There is a Shabu-Shabu inside this food court charging $30 for one 4-Oz. protein item, so - nah, not willing to part with my dollars on that deal. I pulled hubby to 99 Ranch's "HOT DELI," next to the Café.
There is DIM SUM, the top Chinese cuisine favorites, and also Roasted items (duck, chicken, pork).
HOW TO ORDER: (1) Follow the queue if there is any; (2) Pick your dim sum items or (3) order your Combo Meal and/or (4) order your Roasted items or (5) order their Special [off-menu] Offer. (6) Follow your server to the cash register. They will ask for your 99-Ranch membership phone number to entitle you to a special discount or price. (7) Pay and DON'T FORGET TO ASK THEM FOR YOUR CHOPSTICKS or SPOONS, FORKS, KNIVES because they forget especially when there's a barrage of customers waiting behind you.
Service is definitely culturally- influenced so do not be offended about the ubrupt talk. It is not personal, it is just part of the culture.
FOOD - 80% is very good. I will no longer pick the dim sum "Pork ribs" and "shumai." I had to throw it away. I finished the bittermelon, the Eggplant, and the roast duck.
AMBIANCE: A bit unnerving when you get surrounded by seemingly unfriendly folks; all you have to do is breathe in, breathe out, smile. This is not about me... they are just waiting to be served, and the one on the other side of the counter is doing his/her best to make the service faster. I'll be out in no time, enjoying the meal...
Read morePeople who work here are incompetent. They had green mangoes today. The larger ones had a price sticker on each one: $2.99 per mango. Next to it were smaller green mangoes without a price sticker on each one for $6.99 per pound. So I decided to take 4 small green mangoes and weighed it on the scale which read a litte over 1 lb. Around 1.38 lbs. Total of about $9.64
When I went to pay, they charged me $2.99 per mango (total: $11.96) so I went back to the store to get it fixed. When the lady helped me, I told her it should be $6.99 per pound, she then spoke Chinese and asked her boss. Her boss spoke to me in English and agreed to the incorrect price. The lady then asked me if it was $8.99 per pound and AGAIN after I just told her the price per pound. I said No, it's 6.99 per pound. She then checked the floor price where the mangoes were and comes back to the register, weighs the mangoes then enters 3.03 lbs x $6.99.
So I told her the scale by the fruits, stated 1.38 lbs so why is it 3.03 lbs? She stated the weighing scales in the entire store are set to kilograms. I told her to process a refund because there is no way that 4 small mangoes weighed 3.03 lbs at a total price of $22. This lady was trying to sell me 1 small mango at $5.50 per piece! They sell a box of mangoes for $22.99 per box, when it's in season, which has 12 mangoes per box. Does it make any sense to this lady to charge me $5.50 for one mango that is smaller than a person's hand?!?!
Maybe they need to do an in-service for better...
Read moreThis new store is a new addition to a beautiful marketplace located in the Ontario Ranch area and I must say, I was quite impressed with their wide selection of Asian groceries! Not only that, but they also offer fresh and hot food prepared onsite, which is a great option for those who want to grab a quick bite while shopping. The bakery section also had a decent selection to choose from.
However, I must warn you that the prices are higher compared to regular grocery stores. But, let me tell you, the quality of their products is definitely worth it. I believe this store is not targeting the average household, but instead, they have opened their store in an affluent Asian majority neighborhood and are targeting a very specific market here.
Personally, I don't go there for my daily grocery needs, but I know several others who do and they find it worth their time and money. So, if you're looking for a specialty grocery store with high-quality products and a great variety of Asian groceries, then this is the...
